I agree hoyt, we are not in a position to making demands in global trade / domestic output. Wish he'd go slower into tarrifs. Or perhaps exchange the ease or lack of tarrifs with good county behaviour. Heck I think half my fords have mexican parts.
What you guys ake of the debt ceiling, US dollar loosing trade, US possibly going to crypto, etc.... Seems gold is way high. I also like to invest in stuff I believe in, so a bit hesistant to invest in other countries or companies that I don't think are doing right.

You don't see a problem with all the illegal immigration or fentanyl pouring into our country? That's the main reason for the tariffs in the first place. If it takes some stiff tariffs on these assholes to put a huge dent in these problems then I am all for it. Every 8-10 months we lose more Americans than we did during the entire Vietnam war. Countless families have been torn apart by the chaos that's been allowed to come over our borders.
I hope Mexico and Canada enjoy some very desperate times for all the crap they intentionally pumped into our country. Nobody ever talks about how illegal immigration has overrun our schools, cities and hospitals. One of the worst contributors to inflation during the Xiden years was rapid rise in rental units cause we had to find housing for all the illegals they shipped in here. We never had a housing shortage. Only a complete saturation of assholes that weren't supposed to be here in the first place. Mexico and Canada have way more to lose than we do. In the end they will cave cause they have to just like Columbia did. The pain here will be short term and it needs to finally happen.

I don't for a second think it has anything to do with fentanyl or even illegal immigration. Trump didn't mention either of those things when asked directly about them a few days ago.
Trump was asked if there was anything Canada, Mexico, or China could do and he said "No". They were going to happen anyways. He literally said the reason is because of trade. These tariffs come from fundamental misunderstandings by everyone in this administration. If the tariffs were going to happen anyways, why would that encourage them to do anything differently?
Why do you think these would be a short-term price to pay by Americans? Trump said prices would go down his first week in office. This is going to at the very least make prices rise in the short-term. When have you ever seen prices go down after they have risen? What we are doing is pissing off our biggest trade partners because the guy thinks he can strong-arm them. Another thing we are doing is encouraging them all to go make better relationships with eachother. This same exact thing happened with soybeans between China and Brazil.
Blanket, across the board tariffs like he has enacted just raise prices for everyone. They also encourage profiteering and corruption.
Trump just walked down main street and threw rocks at windows. When people are going to have to replace them, he will pump his chest and talk about stimulating the economy.

The craziest thing about the tariffs on Mexico and Canada to me are that he was the last one to modify our trade agreement with them. If he's unhappy with the trade from either country he's the one who should look in the mirror.
I think China should be sanctioned or tariffed. The fact that he chose to tariff China at 10% and Mexico/Canada at 25% is baffling for the reasons mentioned above.

DJT ain't chasing the Panama Canal because he thinks American ships are being charged too much. I suspect he sees it as a tool to influence international politics and punish (fees for passage) those who oppose him or don't bend to his will. If he seriously pursues it very far, don't be surprised to see other countries get involved. Canada may be nothing more than a legacy dream.

These tariffs are long overdue. Trade doesn't just mean you open each others borders to commerce and hope for the best. It used to be smart statesmen would ensure both parties would win. Our politicians just sold us out to wealthy business interests and countries willing to continue the work of slavery and human rights atrocities, that we could no longer bear to watch on our own soil.
Canada and Mexico have no leg to stand on. Where they screwed up, is they built their economies on the idea that they can just dump goods into america, and take great advantage of america's easily bought pedophile ruling class. It worked great for 30 years and their economies grew. But now, we have someone that wants america to be treated fairly, and they're about to have undone, all the plunder they've taken since it was given away by our criminal politicians.

Trade is supposed to be both sides using their abundant resources to trade with others for the resources that are otherwise scarce in their own country. It is not supposed to be moving slavery to places where ignorant consumers don't need to avert their eyes. It was not supposed to be one country attacking it's own industries to favor well connected importers. There should be no lumber or food entering this country until we've done all we can to enable our own resources.
But what do we get instead? Resource rich places are run by criminals placed their to ensure those resources are never utilized. The whole of government is there to hold back human advancement.

I think the tariffs on Mexico and Canada are bargaining chips. I think they will be decreased or eliminated after talks on border security and trade imbalances. I could be wrong, but I hope I'm not. It's in our best interests to form a North American trading bloc rather than try to do everything ourselves.
I think with China it's the opposite. I think he's going to kill them with a thousand cuts, rather than a single massive blow to their economy. China has been on a razor's edge for a long time. The only thing keeping their system together is the government's strict control on information and communication. When their housing bubble bursts, everything else will follow, perhaps even global markets. Trump doesn't want to be seen as the one who caused it all.
