Sheds

Howboutthemdawgs

5 year old buck +
Yall seeing any shed bucks? I watched 10 or so bucks this weekend in my wheat and all but one had both sides still. One was shedded out. And my one cell cam is showing holding both sides. I was hoping to poke a little this weekend now that the season is over but it seems pointless.

I've had at least 2 mature bucks shed a good month ago already. They were both injured so... Also had a spike shed one side and im sure a couple more by now. The two cameras i have out both have dead batteries and I dont plan on changing them.

This is my crew of survivors, unless they got whacked this past weekend. For the first time in 10 years, they say we won't have to contend with dnr snipers this winter. Ehd is a far more efficient killer than a shvantz sitting in a tent over a corn pile at night. We also found a single spike shed in a turnip plot, and have a picture of a shed buck.

That's funny. I got a letter from the conservation dept about 3 weeks ago saying they were suspending the CWD death squads and ending free CWD tags in our area as it's no longer a concern.

Oh and the bucks I have left that are on camera are still mostly holding their antlers.

Just this morning I got a picture of a little dork with one side. He had both last night. May go see if it is in my corn. There isn't much left to look for here. I think they are all hanging on walls somewhere... 🤣

How does one say cwd is only about population control without saying it.

About 50/50 of the bucks we have here in NW Ohio on camera have shed in the last week or so, big and little bucks.

Any chance you could post a copy of that letter?

Few drop in January and then a slow drop until most all are on the ground at mid March. I want to look earlier but I usually wait until mid march to pound the acres. Always little afraid antler poachers will beat me to them

Finding a few - which is early for us

Have had pics of antlerless bucks since late December(injury) but in the last two weeks I'm seeing some half racks and full sheds more than bucks still holding both sides. Still a few decent deer holding both sides.

I'll go out and look mid Feb as usual.

Shed? Buck? What are those? The neighbors shot everything with 1" or bigger sticking out of their heads.

We are back in the CWD control because a surrounding county ends up with a game farm being tested with CWD, so in Wisconsin, all surrounding counties have to comply as well for 3 years.

Not that it matters much, except for baiting, when we are in CWD rules, no baiting, but that is basically just for those that follow rules, because all the neighbors do it anyhow. While the deer arent as plentiful with others baiting, but the bear arent either, so if they are baiting, and I dont, my apple trees dont get attacked.

As of a week ago most of the one's I'm getting on camera still have antlers, but it has started. Found one in the driveway.

I saw a 4 point last night still holding and my wife saw a 10 with both sides. Neighbor told me last week he had five come through all still holding both. I'll wait until mid February to start looking.
