Sericea encroaching on my pollinator field - a lot of it. Any way to control?

Last year, got a good kill with MSM 60DF. Not sure impact on pollinators

Sprayed while SL was flowering. Doesn’t burn down like most, but the SL didn’t grow back. Here’s a pic of a spot sprayed last year.

Mow, pull or weed whack it in late August to early September while the seeds are forming but before they mature. You DO NOT want to let this season’s seeds to get into the soil bank. Spot control with triclopyr and fluroxypyr (PastureGard) next season, and pull, whack or mow as needed each year to control larger areas.

You can also spot control using a 3-4% glyphosate foliar treatment, ensuring coverage of leafs and 10” or more of the stem.

Burning can set back, but not control SL. It takes a three year rotation of cutting and spraying to control SL, and you will not eliminate it once it’s in the seed bank.

It takes a combination of approaches, and just one will not get this out of your pollinator plot. The good news is that this does work—I am having to use this process on 10 acres of pollinators and am making headway.

Prayers!
It’s horrible. I have it in spades. I have a 2 acre quail plot where it’s invading. But it’s just randomly dispersed and there’s no way you could spray out the individual pieces. I hate to nuke the whole thing and start over but I may have to if it gets out of control

Getting 98 percent control with August burns in test plots. It doesn't burn easy because its green. Need a wind to move it. Brushhogged barrier is good enough of a firebreak. K-State has some studies published if you want to read up.

I helped ranchers for yrs with spot spraying Remedy Ultra and sometimes gly. Came back the next yr every time.

I pretty much got the johnson grass beat down, and since then the sericea has took over

I remember a Land & Legacy podcast where they were talking about that stuff being the best way to control SL.

Good luck to you guys, glad we don't have that garbage up here yet.

Spot spray gly every year. Im working on thinning aggressive NWSG this year .

So, our neighbor’s property is coming up for sale. We toured it this weekend, and they have 160ac in CRP that is completely infested with SL. 3 and 5 years left on the contracts. Almost makes me not as interested in the property. But it is adjacent to us. Thinking our top dollar will
be adjusted down significantly if we have to invest a bunch to limit its impact. How much would you guys discount a price with 160ac of LC?

Good Lord dont tell me that! Maybe that is why we have quail at the Christmas tree farm (some small patches there) and none at our house. No Sericea at the home place.

That was back before I knew sericea was “bad”

We were talking today how oil was formed and the amount of foliage and years it took. It is survival of the fittest and eventually it or something else will take over. Mother nature will not wait on you or your best efforts.

and if you dont believe that, over one fourth my land covered with green ash and all dying of emerald ash borer

For Sericea I use remedy or garlon to kill the roots escort also works latter in the season glysophate will not kill the roots just burn off the top growth don’t waste your time with it.
