In the fall of 2009 we got Judge from a shepherd rescue in Minnesota. He hadn't had the best life before we found him, but he lived the kings life ever since.

He was along everywhere we went and everything we did. Towards the end he wasn't always able to join us, but was always happy to see us when we returned.

You always hope to outlive your pets. But it's never fun on the day you do.

Good bye Judge, you were a gentle giant with a heart of gold. We will forever hold you in our hearts and will always miss you.

Sorry to hear that. Nothing like the love of a good dog.

Sorry to hear about your loss John. Our dogs are like family and it isn't easy letting go.

Sorry for your loss John.:( I went to the vet by myself when our female beagle collapsed on us out walking, without any notice. Up till that point she appeared totally normal, even though she was 10 years old. They took xrays and her chest was full of large tumors that were putting pressure on her heart and lungs. I called my wife from the vet's office and we decided to put her down right then as opposed to letting her suffer further, as her breathing was shallow and extremely labored. I sat in the room with her for about an hour while they got things ready(and I think to give me a chance to see if I wanted to change my mind) and I said my goodbyes. It was literally the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I wept for the whole 7 mile trip home from the vet's office and for many hours afterward. I told my wife that I would never go through that alone with any more of our pets. I am getting choked up as I write this and it was over 4 years ago. :(

...and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown

Very very sorry John.

My 2 labs are already 5 and 3. Young by standards but dang they put on the years fast.
They mean a lot to us as well and go everywhere we go.

Do you have any other dogs?

Sorry John,

I have been there and you can't prepare yourself no matter how much you try.

Celebrate their life, that's what they would want.

Best wishes.

Love the name. Perfect for a Shepard. It's always tough when the decision comes down to putting them down.

Sorry to hear about this John, we have one that is getting up there in years too, sad to see them slow down.

Sorry to hear John. You gave that boy some good years that he might not have had. Looks like a great dog.

Sorry to hear John. Always hard when you loose a pet.

Sorry to hear about your lose John. Dogs are family members in my opinion and it sucks to lose them. Hang in there...

Never easy loosing a friend.
Especially one that guards the coors light in the cup holder and would never think of taking a sip.

Thanks whip.... When I had to put down my basset mix 7 or 8 years ago, it was much like you describe. Not much warning, total shock. I literally left the vet office and drove around for 3 or 4 hours. I have no idea where I went, but I made it home :)

This one was different, I knew it was coming. Didn't make it any easier at the time, but much easier just a day later. We did everything we could for him, he lived a great life. That has to be enough because that's all I have :)

I hope some day to foster/end of life older dogs. I have to come to terms with losing them if I'm going to do that. I think I can.

Fortunately, I have these two goof balls to keep my mind off of Judge:

We spent the evening at the cabin yesterday and put up some tree stands today. Good dog therapy. :)

That's what I keep telling myself Freeborn.... It works, a little at a time.

The coors light was safe, but don't leave food in reach! :)

Sorry for your loss. Although I don't have one of my own. I have a grand-dog that's very close.

Sorry for your loss John.

My deepest condolences John. That's rough no matter how or when it happens.

Sorry to hear as it is tough for sure.

Sorry to hear of this John. Nice to see you have a couple of others to help fill the void.
