Saplings in NWSG

I have a 2-3 acre section of NWSG that has hundreds of cottonwood saplings. I set the bush hog high last fall and mowed them. Now that the cut stems are starting to leaf out I want to spray the area. What herbicide has been effective for you? Thanks in advance for assistance.

Crossbow
Or a heavy shot of 2,4-D

Would Remedy harm switchgrass?

What about Miscanthus?

I have a 2 year old stand of Miscanthus with cedar elm seedlings that I would like to basal spray

Would "drift" harm the MG?

thanks

I use triclopyr 4 (remedy) to spot treat hardwoods in our prairie areas without any ill effects on the grasses. Both foliar and basal bark treatments.

Unless you douse the switchgrass in a heavy dose, which wouldn't happen with spot treatment, it won't harm it - and even then any damage is temporary.

I don't have miscanthus, but it's not listed on the label and it's a grass, so should have no effect on it.

If the label says it’s safe on corn or grasses it won’t hurt the MG.

Not that I suggest it but I killed some MG on purpose and it took 3 rounds of gly over the summer. 1 shot of Gly sprayed directly on it set it back but did not toast it.
