Are we going to get to see the winter barley?

I have posted it previously on this thread.

There is about 6 decent pictures of it.

Peas, radish, and turnips into standing buckwheat and crimped. Caught a nice rain shortly thereafter. Guessing a good 1/2” or more.

Going to be picking up some rye and AMS later this week. Chance for a shower or two this weekend and next week.

Patchy and a bit weedy. I broadcast about 125# of AMS and about 125# VNS Winter Rye last night hoping that the 40% chance of rain would pan out. Not a drop so far.

Should have pulled some samples to get a good baseline moving forward but didn’t. The last time I sampled it the ph was near perfect naturally and I have never added lime to this plot. It has gotten a couple gypsum treatment over the years but not at the rate that it probably should have. I’m planning on stockpiling gypsum over the next several months to put a decent rate down next spring. In all reality it shouldn’t need all that much because our rich limestone area also keeps the calcium content of the soil relatively high. I think 1/2 ton per acre rate should be plenty.

Next year I’m going to double my buckwheat rate and add some AMS in with it. I don’t think I went heavy enough this past year with the buckwheat and the plot got a little more weedy than i was hoping for. A little N boost should get it ahead of the weeds. They really weren’t all that bad after last years rye.

Pigweed and dock was more prevalent in the past this year I had zero pigweed and only 2-3 small burr dock plants on a 1 acre plot. Chickweed, smartweed, and dandelion are the most prevalent weed but last night I did notice a forth broadleaf starting to come on fairly strong. Not sure what it is but will identify soon.

Have u got an old test you’d be willing to share? Those weeds are all low calcium weeds with the exception of pigweed. I also don’t think those can be pinned solely on low calcium, but it is a common denominator.

I know I have it save d somewhere but not sure where. Most of the nutrients were either high or vey high.

Caught a good rain this afternoon. Should be plenty to get the AMS into the soil and my rye and oats to germinate.

Buddy of mine shot this Wednesday afternoon. 174” and change green. Shot about 3 miles away from where I hunt.

That is a tank!

Outlook for next season kees getting worse. Passed this buck up a half dozen times in 23 and twice in 24. Was hoping next year as a 5 year old he’d start getting trashy.

Oh man… That’s the worst. I had a similar one this year. Almost exactly and the neighbor found him dead in the creek…

Found yesterday in a Rye, turnip, radish plot. I’ve made up my mind on brassicas. I usually go with about 50/50 radish and turnip. The radishes are being eaten but not the turnips. Going to adjust the ratio to 75/25 at most for next year.
