rye to brassica

Anyone tried planting rye this time of year, letting it grow until next mid july. The overseed with brassica, a dose of urea, spray with gly, then cultipack the it? I know this has been done with beans and corn with great success, but does it work with brassica or does it create to much cover for the brassica to germinate and grow?

Should work out just fine. If you have time, watch the "sare cover crop" stuff on YouTube.

Yes I've done it for the last couple years, I let last year's rye run its course and early to mid July I'll broadcast the brassicas into it and roll it down. It's worked really good plus adding OM to the soil.

It has worked great for me but my rye was not crazy thick.

We will be doing it next year on one of our rundown plots. I think its a very good idea and have always liked scott's pictures of it. Nice to keep that soil covered.

Thanks for the replies, I have the rye seed already, going to be planting it this weekend.
