Rubbing tree

Grimby

Yearling... With promise
This white pine has been rubbed for multiple years and think it’s time to put a trail cam next to it next August🦌

Clear out the brush around it so it sticks out like a sore thumb. A buck should tear it up then.

That is if you are ok with the tree dying since the pines here are rubbed so hard they don’t survive.

It will be a great spot for a camera though

Will do. That tree is between 2 other white pines I planted 18 years ago, they haven’t been rubbed and are 12-15” diameter, rubbing definitely slows down growth and they never really recover and if the do heal a good wind gust will take down.

Your pic looks to be a white pine. It's funny - bucks don't rub white pines here. Or browse on them. It's very rare. Pitch pines ... they absolutely rub those a lot. Don't know why the difference. Hemlocks, spruce, and pitch pines are the rub choices for evergreen trees here. Maples, birch and beech trees are the favorite hardwood trees.

Yeah it’s a white pine. White pines are the go to rubbing tree on my acreage, they’ve hit them hard for 20 years, that’s why I plant 20-30 every year. If there’s a 2,3,4” diameter tree next to a trail, eventually it’s going to get browsed or beat! I have a love/hate relationship with deer! If they didn’t have antlers there’d be a bounty on them!
