Pruning start date?

Buckets have 3/16 or 1/4 inch hole drilled in them. They slowly water the roots. Take about 5-10 minutes. Ideally should have 1/8th hole. But grass clippings mess with them. Drill from inside bucket out the bottom. That way the sharp edges dont catch grass clippings.

Watered 5 with bucket and 5 without in 2023. Same amount of water. The slow water method grew more than with just the hose. 3rd and 2nd year trees get filled with water, then about 2 gallons around the drip edge, then top off bucket.

I carry a bit of 3/4 inch conduit a dump a scoop of miracle grow in the bucket maybe every 3 weeks.

I got about 45 trees and 50 spruces i water. All but 2 apple trees reach 300ft of hose.

Alotnof my trees get 3 feet of more growth.

I Have a double row of 2x11 trees i am going to irrigate somehow. Maybe pop up sprinkler watering a corner of 4 trees each. Dont want anything overhead. This is my backyard.

I have 4 buckets on strings i use at camp. Try to show up in the middle of a dry spell. Got 15 or so there now. About another 20 more will be put in this year. 6 bareroots in spring. Rest will be in 3 or 5 gal rootmaker pots, a few each month august till october.

What I did was take a 275 gal tote and put on trailer. I cut a hole big enough in top for 2 sump pumps, the type that suck through bottom and have garden hose outlet. I hook these to 1/2 inch distribution line with the smaller hose coming off those at trees.I water 25 trees off each sump pump and just let generator run out of gas.

I had just seen a small family orchard last week that had piles of cuttings under their trees and was like whoa if those guys are doing it I probably can too right? But I want to save most if not all of my Scion for grafting so I guess I can hold off a month or two…

Most of the orchards are starting between you and me. Many of them have to in order to get it all done and their trees do fine. I have quit worrying about it and do it when I can from now until spring. I have not noticed any difference in the health of my trees. I do try to wait until late to harvest any scion.
