Oriental and Pineapple pears?

Anyone know anything about the Oriental and Pineapple pears that they sell at Walmart? I don't particularly trust walmart for things that matter to me but maybe these are ok.?.

Are these particular types susceptible to FB or other diseases?

If they are what they say they are should be pretty blight resistant

"If they are what they say they are" is what worries me about wallyworld.
Thanks for the dr report on these varieties of pear.

I got some oriental pear seed but had poor germination. I did get 2 nice seedlings out of it and planted them last fall. I got a couple Shinko and Korean Giant scions from Cliff England. I plan to graft them. I planted them next to the "Kieffer Pear" trees my partner planted. I put it in quotes because the trees are huge and over 5 years old and I've only seen two pears and they don't look like Kieffer. I'm guessing they were mislabeled and require a pollination partner. I'm not certain if I can graft the Shinko or Korean Giant scions to these trees or if they will pollinate them since I don't really know what kind of pears they are, but I figure I'll give it a shot. I'll just top work a branch or two on a tree in each cluster.

Thanks,

Jack

Cant speak to being true to label on the Walmart stuff, but I do have Orient and have had no trouble with mine in terms of disease.

Did he get his pears from Walmart? Are your Shinko and Korean Giant the same as the Orient I'm looking at? Are Shinko and Korean Giant FB resistant?

Thanks. I can try to find some pics to see if I can id that they are correctly labeled to help easy my mind. Or, I could just try one or two and see how they turn out.

No, he did not buy from walmart, but any place can mix up labels. I believe there are three general kinds of pears, European, Asian, and Hybrid. I believe Orient is a hybrid. I think Shinko and Korean Giant are Asian. Disease resistance is one reason I picked those two varieties of scions. I'm not sure about the grafting compatibility between all of these. This will be my first try at grafting pears.

Thanks,

Jack
