Newbie Land Tour

Your little Pine tree is doomed 🥲

Get a post hole digger and put a cedar trunk there. Then hang stuff from it. A grape vine, rope, better yet find a scrap branch were you don’t need it and transplant it. It will be a destination tomorrow.
Hahahah, I know! My brother and I have bets on how long it will be standing before it's either snapped in half or uprooted by a buck.

I have a bigger pine that was historically a scrape/rub tree next to my house that I am going to replace into that spot this winter with my backhoe. It should hold up okay if given a growing season to establish roots.

But like you said, this winter/spring I have plans to build a few scrape setups with posts, licking branches and vines for next year.

I just couldn't help myself to try this little pine as an experiment mid-season. Since my wife filled her tag I thought it'd be a good time to play around a little.

Love it Newbs! What grinder are you rockin?
It is one of the old school 1hp grinders from Cabelas. Probably 20-30yr old. The thing must weigh 1000lbs. It chewed up anything I threw in there with ease. I ground about 30# of venison with it yesterday in just a few minutes.

Processed a whole lot of venison today. The ol man will be enjoyed for months to come.

Also, transplanted a pine sapling to the food plot edge to hopefully entice a few visitors to a rub/scrape. The field gets tons of activity but hoping to something of a destination for the buck to visit on their way in for some more predicable travel.

Exclusion cages is showing the amount of browse pressure his field has been getting.

That cage tells quite a story, Newbie. No wonder your deer are big. Ground venison looks de-lish. Venison burger chili, maybe?? That's how we use most of ours. From the 2 racks your wife put her tags on - better keep her afield, Newbie!!! Deadly shot.

That’s why I’m always on my best behavior! (She always responds with an eye roll when I say that).

I will say I’m thrilled for her to bag nice buck in consecutive years. However, even better than the harvests, she’s really buying into some of the habitat work & has been asking about what we are doing next summer. She wants to help with the plots, hanging stands, running cams, ect. Will be nice to have an extra set of hands & great way to spend some family time.

Edit: still working on my permission slip to buy more land 😂

^ ^ ^ ^ Very cool she's into habitat work too. My wife has helped plant things at camp, and even hauled pruned apple limbs out of the way. I agree it's a nice way to spend some family time and improve a bit of nature in the bargain. Give her a remote handshake / high 5 from me, Newbie!!

You have some catching-up to do on the buck kills ......... 😁

I’ve got one of them too. Spend more time on setup and cleanup. They are beasts.
