New to T bud ?

BC Buck

5 year old buck +
I will not be at farm right time to top work unproductive Kiefer pear and native persimmon mature trees using scion wood. Someone suggested T bud trees so watched U tube and looks interesting. Thinking T bud couple of center straight up branches this late spring. Next spring if bud starts growing top cut all existing branches above t bud and start with productive tested producer. Does it sound like a game plan.

Late Spring is fine for grafting. T-bud grafting is for late Summer, and you need bud wood.

Going to be a long wait for scion wood in the fridge. Might want to hydrate scion now. Put scion in a shallow cup of water for a few hours, 8 or so. Cut back end a bit if ends are sealed. Reseal end.

I have no scions and was told May to warm to ship to MO. Thats why thinking of try T bud.

Get the scions now, keep them refrigerated/on ice in a cooler until May, then graft.
T budding is generally done in August or September using actively growing, green buds

Will not be in MO till May.

I do all my field grafting in May and June.

Bench grafts I like to do earlier if possible. I like late March to early April.

You need to get scions now if you can. You're actually running a bit late.

Not able to cut collect or ship scions in MO during May.
Cut and collect now. Store in fridge. Graft in May. I'm not sure where the communication is falling apart on this topic.

I am wintering in FL and farm is in MO. Thats why im thinking T bud July.

USPS doesn't ship scions to FL?

I doubt bark will be slipping in July, kind of necessary for T budding. Good luck with your project.
