New (to me) log splitter

I didn't really "need" a log splitter but I like to keep things in the family. So when my wife's aunt mentioned that she had a log splitter and none of her kids or grandkids were interested (her husband recently passed), I said I'd take it, sight unseen. Went to pick it up yesterday and found it buried in the garage behind stuff that hadn't been moved in years. On top of it looking to be a homemade model, it was much larger and heavier than I had imagined.

I wanted to start it before forking over the few bucks she wanted but the tank was empty and there was no gas on site. I said the heck with it, paid her, and loaded it up. Drove it up to our place and threw some gas in it this morning. On about the 5th pull she started up and ran strong. I only had time to split a couple logs with it but it seems to work just fine. I was told it doesn't use hydraulic fluid, instead it has brake fluid in it. I'm a bit concerned with that but as long as it's working I may just leave it as is.

I love the homemade hydronic tank.
It looks like an old freon container like the ones at a gas station I worked at as a kid.

Funny you mention that. Many years ago he (my wife's uncle) owned and operated an Amoco station

Nice bueller!
