My tiny shed to cabin project

I decided to build a cabin on my new property. Took the week off to turkey hunt and work on the cabin in the afternoon. I made a few mistakes, but this was my first time doing anything like this. Have a few more things to finish, but its almost there. The spray foam caused me alot of pain, because they didn't attach deadwood. I ask them specifically about this when purchasing the shed/cabin, but the lady I was talkin to was confused about the question. Hopefully the spray foam helps with the bugs and mice.

Looking good! I'm still trying to figure out a option for my place. I live only a hour away so just need to be able to use it like a warming house and spend a night or two tops at a time a few times a year. Anyone have any experience with these types of kits in terms of longevity?

The corrugated metal was just an aesthetic thing. It worked out fairly well and easy from a installation aspect. Just gonna put in a small kitchen area. One burner butane stove, and a gravity fed sink into a 5 gallon bucket. Also will turn one loft into a sleeping area, and the other one into my storage area.

I upgraded to the z metal siding. I think I should be good to go for 20 years+. My goal was to make this as mouse proof as possible. My last property had a larger cabin with t11 siding, which was 20 years old and still in ok shape. However it was overrun with mice, and it was a never ending battle.

futon & small compact kitchen area all off grid. I am debating on a small mini wood stove, diesel, or propane heater. The cabin is pretty air tight so I might need to put in ventilation.

How the building was constructed. I had to add additional studs in the corners just so I could attach my shiplap. Its a real pain when its already been spray foamed, because I had to remove the foam where I wanted my studs to be.

I have a shed like that and have turned it into a hunting cabin too. I hunt way North, so my priorities were really just "warm and dry". The nominal interior dimensions on mine are 12'x24'.

Here's what I've done to make it livable.

1. Vapor barrier on floor with 1" pink foam board insulation on top. 1/2" birch sanded plywood on top for a floor. (I wish I'd put some sort of finish on the wood.)
2. Insulated with fiberglass.
3. Shiplap walls
4. Pine tongue and groove ceiling.
5. Replaced the crappy shed windows with double pane vinyl (This was game changing)
6. Installed a direct vent Empire furnace with a 100LB tank. The 15K BTU model has been more than enough, even in December. I suppose -40 wouldn't be very comfortable.

All of these were really vital to making it livable. After I got it insulated, I was trying to use a Big Buddy heater. It kept it warm enough. But the condensation was horrific and I was just never convinced it was safe. Changing the windows and installing the vented heater were total game changers. I roll around in there at ~70 degrees and never have to chip frozen condensation off windows, or wipe up melted condensation. Total game changer.

Mine's the cheap siding. I wish I'd upgraded that.

Gotcha, here that would be called nailers or backers.

I was worried they would eat the bait, enter the cabin and die. In 10 years I've only had that happen once.

I’ve got 6 around my house. Once they $hit in my bed it was all out war!
Same here only ever found one inside dead.

Same here Bill. Little bastards shit in my bed and chewed a hole in my sheets. MO mice like to be comfy.

I've only ever had one die in the bait station. Sometimes I see them in the yard but not often.
