My gun opener is next saturday and honestly, I will be shooting the first thing I can eat.

I pretty much did this today.......and piled up a 7 Point "meat buck" on my way out from a stand in the timber. Kinda interesting way I got this buck tho.......I was crossing one of my large food plots.....when I saw this buck about 120 yards away. I was out in the open.....and he was feeding on clover...head down. Too long of shot off hand and no where to go for a rest because I was caught in the open field.......so I dropped down on all fours to look more like an animal. Had to chamber a round.....and slip my back pack to the ground for a rifle rest. He simply watched me......and I think because I was on all hands and knees......he didn't "get it" (or maybe I was too entertaining to run?). Anyway.....high shoulder shot with my trusty 25-06 and he never took a step. I gotta go to AZ mid week......and no time to spend on stand this year. My wife needs some medical treatments.......so it's a short season this year.

Saw some pretty nice bucks at Emily Meats....where I dropped my deer for processing (and CWD testing in Emily). DNR worker says they did not get a single CWD positive result last year......and if none this year or next......then will lift the CWD in 26. So far they have two CWD deer and both were at the fence line of the old deer farm which has been closed down. My land is about 40 miles from that site.
