MN 2025 Rifle Season

Big day tommorow in MN as our rifle season opens. Seems like plenty of deer this year.....just hard to get otne of those bucks in range. Big cold front coming through tonight with lows in the mid 20". Should put the deer on their feet. I predict one of the better openers over the past years.

Our normal group of 5 hunters is down to three this year.....as my grandson and his wife just brought my Great Grandson into this world yesterday. So he and his dad (grandpa) are sticking close to home this weekend. We likely cannot hunt next weekend (baptism) so I hope to get it done in the coming days. Got a few good 'und hanging about.....hope they show tomorrow.

I have fond (and not so fond) memories of my hunts in the Big Woods and Kugler Township deer drives. Good luck to all of the Minnesota hunters.

A friend of mine from work is hunting my place, they've seen a few and heard plenty of shots but nothing good has come by yet. Have a few friends who have tagged out already.

Pretty slow this morning....and I heard but a few shots....and none nearby. The action picked up this afternoon.....and I saw seven deer including Quick Look at a big buck. No shot opportunity. I have a tag for one buck and one doe.....and late in the afternoon I decided to take a doe. My family was not shooting anything.....and I want two deer for our family sausage share. Nice plump doe....and I got plenty of does. We had two good bucks come thru today.....but no shot opportunities. Snowed an inch tonight....so maybe tomorrow is the day?

Gonna be brutal tomorrow with temps in the teens and 18 MPH winds out of the NW. Brrrr. Windows down sit for sure. I got a stand that has some pretty good cover and may get some action. Hopefully tomorrow is the day. So many things going on for me...that it's going to be hard to hunt as much as I planned. I just became a great grandfather again....and that means a trip 200 mileoos south for a baptism and an overnight down there. Also, gotta go to he city to meet an attorney before going back to OZ on the 20th. Digging a pond on the 17th. Yikes....time is going to fly by.

Upside is.....our family gained a healthy grandson and has some great parents and a dad that loves to hunt. Wont be long and I get a new hunting buddy!

Notched a MN tag for the first time in quite a few years this AM. My 4 YO daughter was super excited so I’m waiting for my wife to bring her and her little sister to the land so we can go pick it up together with the tractor.
