Checked it today and you can certainly tell the difference that competition makes.

hit that strip in early April with simazine and it should help control the foxtail. It might have some post emergent affect now if you want to bother with it.

either way they look like their off to a good start.

Did you plant a single rhizome or the cluster?

They are single rhizomes.

Nope..but MG will burn a bit if you use crop oil. I just use Dawn dish detergent as a sticker. I did spray Atrazine and crop oil over about 800 plants one year. Thought I killed them all but they bounced back. I never get any browning with Dawn.

Good observation. I don't think enough credit is given to competition. 6" tall weeds suck a LOT away from the target planting. And we all know what small weeds turn into.
