neighbor said maybe an inch. But it may have rained more after that. Gotta say I’m pretty happy about the timing.

late April beans with moisture sure beat June dry beans. And the miscanthus should eat it up.
 
Bill - You find you have less issues with weeds if you plant early? Maybe get a head start on them?

Never really thought to compare. I’m sure the early canopy will help.
But the pigweed always finds a way to poke through.

I have never seen a weed that couldn't outcompete prefered food seed planted. Pigweed is the worst of them.
 
With all that work are you finding time to hunt turkey?

As long as you have deep pockets or good insurance. Unless all your neighbors are using Dicamba.
My neighbor said he’s using them. I told him fine but if it kills my fruit trees, road screens, liberty beans etc. someone is paying me. Either him or the spray outfit.

I don’t know any local sprayers that will touch it.

Maybe I don’t know enough about it but the rumors are bad.
 
Spray when it’s cooler and your fine. It’s the warm temps and inversions that give dicamba a bad rap. Very effective chemical!

I’m sure it is. I worry more about my neighbor than the chemical. Spray contractors around me won’t touch it. So now it’s just the average guy that I worry about.
 
Yeah it works. good spring chem but not summer time. We planted dicamba beans the past couple years just to protect us from rogue operators. Never intended to spray the chem. Saw a lot of damage.
 
My spray guy tells me its safe early in the year and he's been using it for years. But once it gets too warm don't even open the cap on the bottle :)

I planted 15000 of them last year in a long weekend with two other guys. It was a mistake to order that much at once, but I am happy to say almost all of them have came back up this year. looking forward to a nice screen to get to my blinds. For those looking to plant these, I used a rototiller and then mounted three homemade scrapers to the back that created three trenches 18" apart. Just throw in rhizome and cover with dirt with your foot. Worked well but don't try doing so many at once.

Just used some u-bolts and some square tubing and bolted a piece of 2x4 that was cut to a point on the bottom to make the furrow.
 
My neighbor just told me he finished his this morning. He was storing them in a root cellar.
I was worried about some of ours. We planted them into dry clumpy clay. Thankfully it rained a few days later.
Today from the security camera I saw real rain

If they were alive the clay sealed back up wet.....

so glad I planted beans too.
