Interesting that this plant (black nightshade) is edible. The berries even taste a little tomato like. NOT to be confused with deadly nightshade (Belladonna) which could kill you.

My understanding is that the foliage and green fruits contain toxic alkaloids, but the ripe fruits are "probably" edible to humans. My fear would be that it could be a plant that hybridized with another nightshade, and I would be unsure about the safety of the berries. I hear people talk about seeing some deer browsing on nightshade leaves, but I've not see it here.
