Last-minute shoppers - apple trees

They look like nice trees. I'm looking at the weather next week and it doesn't look like very good planting weather so I think I'll wait. If they ship I should get them on the 13th or 14th.

All nice trees. I was fortunate to get them in last weekend while weather was nice. Still have some trees I grafted last year to plant.

Thought I'd bump this up. I checked Cummins' site again and they're having 25% off on their entire remaining inventory. You can pick from apples, cherries, pears, plums. Lots of good stuff left. Good DR apples and cider types on various roots. I'm NOT affiliated with Cummins - just a FYI for anyone still itchy and looking for deals on good varieties.

They had a lot of trees in the warehouse when I picked my stuff up last Friday.

I am waiting for the $5 sale!

I just received the 2 Dayton apple trees from Cummins. They are the 2nd order I put in with Cummins for this spring. They'll be planted this weekend, along with some serviceberry I have to pick up tomorrow. Busy time of year !! :)

Does the $5 sale only apply to people who bought from them in the past? If not, that'd be great to know when that all goes down

Doesn't look like they have much left.

I just checked their DR list and among the usual varieties guys plant for deer - or eating - they have 105 Goldrush, 89 Sundance, 21 Winecrisp, 58 Enterprise, 88 Golden Russet, and 38 Dayton. All these are on either MM-111, B-118, or P-18 roots. There are many others, but I listed the usual DR varieties. Just a FYI.

Usually after everything ships they will do a $5 sale. Rootstock and variety unknown. Not for everyone but I have a lot of space to fill so I will take a shot. Although after the shipment I received today I may reconsider. Trees were not packed well and one group of three were very dry. They were also the biggest trees I have received from them (nova spy) and each only had a couple very large roots that were chopped off for shipping. I put two of them in my back yard because I figured there was no way they will live at camp without being babied. My dolgo's were leafed out and turning yellow. Hopefully I can keep everything moist till Saturday.

I came close to ordering two Sundance last night. That looks like a sure fire winner for my growing area. But, we are already in a hot summer pattern, and I'm already babying a few recently set plants, so decided to wait. If anyone sees a killer deal anywhere on Sundance on B118, MM111 or full sized, please let me know. I want that to be my next apple.

After further review my nova spy are actually an Asian pear, shinseiki. Not sure how that happened. Waiting for a response from cummins.

Chummer - If your Dolgo's were turning yellow, that may just be from sitting in the warehouse in the cool temps. with no sunlight. My grafts do the same thing until I put them in some natural light and they then turn green. I wouldn't worry. I can't explain the pear - apple - switch !! I'll bet they make it right.

Native - I chose to try Sundance after reading about it in several places. It sure seems like a great apple to give a shot. If it performs as advertised, it'll be a super addition at camp.

I missed the $5 sale, posted on Monday. I just called and they said they think they have a bunch left. I ordered 15 unknown trees. He said they would all be zone 4 or lower but that was the only guarantee. I am a sucker for cheap trees.

I tried to order 10 trees including 2 yarlinton Mills and a porters perfection which were in inventory but when I called the ones I really wantes were gone so I passed even tho less than 10 bucks for rest

They confirmed my order today. 15 various trees on the way. It sounds like they are labeled but they just pull them at random so I will know what they are. I am going to put them in root bags until next year. I will update what I get so everyone's knows what to expect if you want to try next year.

Well flush that $100. 15 trees, mostly pears, rated zone 5, no disease resistance. Won't try that again. Maybe I will roll the dice and plant near my zone 5 Ayers pear on his 4th leaf and I believe will have blossoms.

Pulled the trigger on 2 MORE Sundance apple trees from Cummins. That makes 3 Sundance in our camp orchards. Done buying trees - I have this year's grafts to baby and then plant next spring. That'll put us up to 76 newer apples & crabs in 5 years, 2 Kieffer pears, 1 Morse hybrid pear.

I thought they said zone 4 or lower

I guess technically he said they would be fine in New York. There is a lot of NY below zone 5.
