If you could change one regulation in your state

Would legally be considered Wanton waste in most every state ive hunted big game.

I dont blame you but it's certainly a shame when population control ends up devaluing the animals.
It’s a different world here with the amount of deer we have. I understand the thought though.

I thought of another reg change. Shorten archery season. 5 months is way too long. I know it wouldn't be popular, but I think it would lessen the amount of bucks killed. Use other methods to remove does where needed.

Drones must not fly over anyone else's property. Fine of $50,000 per offense.
Little news. Hopefully it comes to pass and other red states follow. Blue states will never

Allow more Sunday hunting!

About 5 years ago PA generously allowed 3 Sundays(1 archery deer, 1 rifle buck, 1 bear) by updating the old blue laws. We may finally see unlimited Sundays this legislative session. In the 23/24 session both the house and Senate passed bills removing the limit, but they never cross agreed on the language.

Shorter buck archery season but keep doe full duration?

I was thinking of it more from a pressure aspect than a weapon one. With any season that long, they are pressured. It doesn't matter what weapon you're carrying, it's the presence of people I would like to see less of. I think does can be controlled in a short firearm season if they aren't constantly under pressure.

I’d love for them to move opener to 10/1 or so. The amount of dumb velvet bucks that die after being conditioned from the previous weeks of coming to a bait pile is sad.

When does your season open. We had our first early season last year - three day, buck only, started 7 Sep. Something around 1200 bucks were killed - 20% in velvet. From my pics, just seven days before and it would have been 50% in velvet. When does your season open to be a true velvet hunt?

9/6 this year. So I believe it’s that first Saturday in September so sometimes around as early as the 1st of September. We have two issues that you don’t. Number 1 ours starts on that day and doesn’t end until mid January. So the early season bucks are dumb and pattenable and get hammered the first week or two. Second we are destination state, especially for the allure of getting a velvet buck. It’s a huge hunter draw that you guys don’t have to deal with. Outside of the gun season rifle hunt, the outfitter by me is most busy the first week of September.

I agree - not many folks come to ar to deer hunt. Our “early” season opened sep 6 or 7 for three days and closed and then opens back up around first of Oct through end of Feb. was just wondering if most of your bucks were still in velvet when 80% of our are not, at that time.

Yes definitely. Almost all are in velvet for the first two weeks of the season I’d say.

Id love to see a velvet hunt opportunity in WI/MN, even if it was for one weekend or 3 days. Non-bait areas obviously but would allow for a new aspect of hunting/scouting that time of year. A lot of bur oaks and apples dropping that time of year for attractive food sources we don't have the luxury of being able to hunt near with the season opening mid to late Sept.
