Hazelnut trees

Checked mine out Tuesday, had catkins on most, they are out of 5' tubes.

Checked my Hazelnut trees last night, I planted and tubed some, caged some and just planted some with no protection. The ones in the tubes are going crazy, they were about 3' when planted and now are close to 4'. I'm waiting to see if the others catch up after a couple years. I'm also curious about the unprotected ones, if the deer leave them alone or not, the guy I bought them from said he never protects them from the deer so I thought I'd try a few. The unprotected ones are planted on the edge of the woods not out in the open like these.

Checked my Hazelnut trees I planted this spring, looks like they are all doing ok.

These are the tubed ones and have grown about a foot, they are about 4' now





This one isn't tubed or caged and seems to be doing ok, no browse.

My deer eat the CRAP out of my unprotected hazelnuts and trim up the ones in cages every time one dare sticks a leaf out of the cage.

Yea I might have to at least cage these ones, the deer around here I don't think are used to them yet but once they are watch out.
