GHR+PTT, Peas and Oats

Boone

5 year old buck +
We planted this field on 7/20. Half PTT and GHR the other half peas and oats. I've been pretty impressed with the growth. We used no fertilizer and the field was beans last yr. We've never planted peas, how long do they mature and stay attractive?

Boone, your peas will NOT become "mature and attractive", because unless that is a 2 or 3 acre plot your deer will likely hoover them to the dirt before they get a chance to get more than a few inches tall. Candy! Besides that, they are "attractive" the minute they come out of the ground. Did I mention "Candy!"

Whip is right! I had a peas and oats plot 2 years ago that was a 1/2 acre planted in june. Never got over 2" tall. It was a magnet for deer!

WE have a three peat. Those peas are not going to mature. I am a little shocked they are doing as well as they are. Perhaps because your oats are doing a pretty good job of hiding them, but both plots look great!!!!

No, we only fertilize the corn plots. This field has never been planted in brassicas or peas. It literally grew 5-6 inches in 2 weeks.

As I said before, Boone plants into some pretty good dirt to start with!

Was out checking cams and plots this morning. Peas and oats are about 10" tall. There is a lot of ag fields around or maybe the deer haven't found the peas yet.

Very nice!

My good looking ptt/ghr plot now has some spots of tall grass and the tops on some are turning yellow. Should I hit it with urea before the next rain?
