They stayed high in the sky and turned away at about 50 yards out. There could have been something else going on though. I think it’s worth a shot to try again.

Doves tend to be just like ducks and want to do their final approach into the wind. Was that a factor?

Do you camo and blend in well? I take lots of guys hunting who show up in bluejeans a t-shirt. They mostly get long shots. They aren't obvious about it but doves do flare and skirt hunters if they've been shot at a few times.
