Took a couple pictures of the sugar beets while I was in The Valley spraying my soybeans which by the looks of it will not have many pods come fall the way the deer are hitting it. It will be getting over seeded with a mix by cover crop solutions containing radishes, triticale, and crimson clover late summer anyway.

That looks like a well prepped bed for the sugar beets.

Well tilled rye, oats, and peas from last fall. Planted the sugar beets around the first of June. Cant believe how slow they grow. I sprayed them around the third week in June. Rain in the forecast for later this afternoon so i'm going to give them a dose of Urea.

Got mine in June 10th, later than I wanted. Had to spray with clethodim this past weekend as grasses were cropping up. Would liked to have sprayed gly but quite a few beets had popped up already.

Ooohhhh, I found a beet. I weeded it and gave it a bottle of water. I'm growing me a beet damn it!

Well I bought the urea but I didn't spread it yet because the rain skirted us. Another good chance for Sunday, fingers crossed.

Me too. Need some moisture. As the weeds die I'm finding more beets. I think I'll be back in two weeks and spread some brassica's if there is even a partial stand of beets.

It looks like you are going to have a half way decent stand. I ended up spreading my urea yesterday afternoon as rain was forecasted but I'm not sure we got enough. Mine are starting to fill out nice and some are actually getting browsed already. I've never had brassicas browsed with the exception of radishes until mid winter after the hunting season is over. That is ok by me because I plot for winter food source and not for hunting purposes.

Checked on the sugar beets I planted June 11th. They are looking pretty good. I put down some urea about 2 weeks ago. I sprayed the grasses last weekend with clethodim. Can't do anything about the broad-leafs at this point.

Those are looking good with lots of time left to grow.

Checked on my sugar beets after work yesterday. The rain and extra urea has been doing its job. They are filling out nicely and putting on bulbs. I may not need to fill them in much and may just spread rye in sept to scavenge nutrients for next years bean rotation.

Those look great! mine are just cooking with no moisture according to my camera.

I will take a close look at mine this weekend and see if any are growing in the brassica mix they came in.

The dark green plant in your first pic is a beet

Looks like some browsing or maybe insect damage. Some of mine look the same way

Thanks. I was thinking that, they are not very thick in the mixture, and the deer have been eating the tops of them, but they are of a fairly decent size already.

Checked out my sugar beet plot yesterday. Beets doing well, had to pull one to see how big it was. Very satisfied for this time of year.
