Current Political News

I thought this opinion on Fox News pretty much brings us up to date on the Ukraine issues. Good read.

I just did a google news search "factories move to USA". Crickets, zero articles of manufacturing committing to US soil.

Did a second search with a sinlge word "trump". Bad bad bad. Pages of how awful he is.

I do not trust our media to do it's job. I want facts without opinion. Stop telling me how to feel about things and just tell me about things. Don't omit facts that you don't agree with, just give the info.
Catscratch- Algorithms are a game most of us don't know we are playing.

I'm not an expert but my guess is that Google has figured out you engage with more controversial content but have had low engagement with the second topic- about the factories moving to the U.S.

So in other words, there may not be a relationship with the amount of content based on your search. The search results are tuned into content you have previously engaged with.

I bet someone smarter than me could explain it better.

I know of the algorithms your talking about (Facebook Reels certainly know me well and gives me what I want without even asking. Kind of creepy but at the same time nice.). Thing is... I never click on or search for the "Trump is bad" stuff. I usually look for transcripts and full video's so that I can catch up on facts without opinions being inserted. Of course I play on forums and whatnot, but this thread is likely the most controversial thing I've clicked on in a month or two. But, I don't doubt that you're right for the most part. Could it be that google is giving me not what I usually search for but what the majority searches for?

I dont know about anyone else, but my flip came after the WMD debacle and Iraq in 2003. **** these perpetual war mongers like John Bolton, Lindsey Graham and Bill Kristol. But I'm sure they are telling the truth this time..... All they ever do is lie to drag us into the next conflict. I will never be fooled by the never ending wars and the never ending boogeyman ever again. Nobody has killed more people than the United States the last 50 years and its not even remotely close.

And what will it take for some of you to stop hating Russia?? I'm not apologizing for them, i am asking. We dropped 2 nukes on Japan and it didn't take to long after that to have somewhat normal relations with them again.

And again, I have much worse enemies in Somaliapolis and St Paul than I do in Russia. I dont need to go 4,000 miles looking for a fight when I have half a million troops 40 miles from me that want to do significant harm to me.
Exactly, Iraq changed me as well. I was 100% for that war. I thought we were saving the world.
I swore I'd never be duped like that again.

I truly don't know. I also don't know if it accurately summarizes all content we look at.

It's just trying to keep us glued to the screen.

Foggy, if you look at the actions Russia takes at the U.N. Security Council, it helps understand why they wanted to be in NATO.

Russia’s biggest export isn’t energy. It’s corruption.

What do I mean by that? Great Britain offered a “Golden Visa” too. It’s why the nickname “Londongrad” came into being. London became a place where Russian kleptocrats landed. One of the negative effects was buying up London real estate with money stolen from the Russian people and pricing Londoners out of real estate. Some of this was done to launder money by the baddest of the bad actors.

This has happened in the U.S. too. Here in Illinois some industrial property was believed to be purchased with stolen Russian money, laundered through real estate…. Now that property sits unused and decaying. It can’t be used by U.S. busnesses and no one can figure out what to do with it. The taxes get paid every year. It sits.

A farm I used to hunt was supposedly owned by a “German” guy. It is 1,000 acres of prime bottomland. It was the first time in my life I ever heard of a foreign national owning U.S. property. (30-35 years ago?) It is waterfowl, deer and upland hunting heaven. My cousin ran it. He basically told me “I can’t let you hunt but the guy is in Germany and no one is hunting it. Send me pictures.” I always wondered who the true owner is. When he bought it, he easily outbid local farmers. No one was even close to bidding against him. So what happens when a Golden Visa recipient starts buying property here? And who we talking about? Russian? Chinese? Are they allowed to buy one?
I used to live in a very German town in southern MN. During the early 70's some German investors wanted to buy farm land (when it was maybe $400 / acre). A local guy, familiar with ag, started a land management company that would source the farm land for these buyers and then manage the farms for them on a percentage basis. He became a very big operator and quite wealthy by anyone's standards.

I never saw the "harm" in it....in those times. But now I think differently. I'm sure there are all kinds of similar situations all across the world that facilitate all kinds of customers (including some bad actors) and profit alongside these guys. Not sure what good this does the people in our country...or in the case cited - the farmers.

Too many unfair advantages can exist from one country to another. And too many politicians have figured out how to skim money out of the programs the Fed writes. I wonder what the total pilfered from the USA taxpayers would be.....plus, then the ill-gotten money is invested here only to create inflation to the people it was extracted from. Lots of money laundering going on. I think it's one reason bit-coin exists.....move money without being reported to the Fed. These things gotta end....sadly, unscrupulous people will always figure a new way.

I remember shock & awe ! CNN was right there with Wolf Blitzer! Times have changed!

Hey S.T. Fanatic. I am the exact opposite. I don't understand all the Putin-bro-love and pro-Russia sentiment. When did it become fashionable for traditionally more hawkish conservatives to become doves, especially regarding the Russians?

The Soviet Union (modern day Russia) has been a thorn in the side of the world since the end of WWII. The amount of misery, and strife, and proxy-wars they have been involved with for the past 80 years is staggering. Putin (former KGB) and his oligarch cronies are as murderous and corrupt as they come. Putin is a joke, a thug, a dictator.

But I have learned a lot by reading this thread...and I see why many of you want to end support for Ukraine. I did not know, for example, that Ukraine was one of the most corrupt counties in Europe. So, I am open to the reasons why all many of you guys are against Ukraine. I guess for me it comes down to which country is the lesser of two evils? To me, the answer couldn't be clearer.

Also...you mentioned that Ukraine is fighting alongside the North Koreans? Maybe I read that wrong? But it's Russia who is using North Koreans in the war.
There’s a reason Ukraine isn’t in NATO and won’t be. It’s the corruption. Is it still going on, well what do you think? That leads to the whole entire problem. Ukraine is pretty much demanding protection guarantees. They want to be in NATO without actually being in NATO. It’s not going to go well if Zelensky doesn’t compromise . Nobody including the US wants Russia any closer to them but, where to draw the line? Billions, Trillions? The Europeans are talking big but, I can’t believe they can’t keep up the money train. These are my thoughts. End it however and go from there.

I'm hearing zelenski has already signed the mineral deal and it will be announced tonight.
