Cuddeback's Cuddelink

Like I said this wasn’t to start a argument, the function was there when these came out and was advertised to be available.

I can see cuddeback point they have cell service and want everyone to purchase cell service and cellular devices.

Now don’t get me wrong but I have trail cameras that use cell service, but where I hunt in Missouri there is spotty connection on our farm, 3 are spypoint I use there free service and the other is Spartan cam which is connect to my cell phone provider so it’s treated like a cell phone.

The reason I like the usb connection is that I can easily setup a server on my farm in Missouri and be able to save this images to a web server anyone can access

just to be clear , the option is not built into the cameras and firmware was never completed to a level they were comfortable with. i understand why you want it , i just dont want you waiting for it or thinking we could flip a switch and have it working. the forum member who was able to rig his own system used a hardwired SD card inserted into the SD card slot on the camera . the procedure he used in somewhere in the cuddelink thread which is several hundred pages long and i dont have it marked, but it was in there.

the K can only be a cell home and has to have an active plan to operate on the current firmware., if you had purchased an ANNUAL plan for the K's ,cuddeback will work with you if you don't want to use the unit as as home cell with a plan, it will involve you trading the K for J camera at Cuddeback. if you only had run them on a monthly plan they wont do the trade until and annual plan is completed . They are fairly easy to sell if you would rather not do that
Appreciate the info! I assume I can just get in touch with cuddeback to see about swapping the K's out? I have 4 of them and pretty sure I had an annual plan on 2 of them and paid monthly for over a year on the other two.

Ive had a cam pop up with the battery being low on friday, and it has since fallen off the report. Camera has taken a total of 383 pics and it says the batteries have been in there for 126 days. Last pic was taken on July 4th and the meta data showed INT batteries at 99%. It does have a booster on it. The camera is a J camera with a 6D battery pack as well the 6D booster with Rayovacs. Doesnt seem like it should be dead yet....

I understand voltage is the same so it'll show it always on INT. Still dont think it should be dead yet running on 12Ds. The booster alone is suppose to provide an additional 6mo. ANy idea what else could be wrong?

You actually would get the same and possibly more if you had a 4 d internal on the camera this allows the external to run first and then switch to the internal when the externals die. I run all 4 d internal with 6 d external or a 3600 solar in areas i have full sun. I expect 120 -180 days on my 4D/6d ext4rnal set ups.

Buying several 4 pack Ds after Ive already replaced all my 12 pack AAs with 6 D packs wouldnt make sense for me at this point. Ive already dumped enough money into this. As long as that time frame is reasonable guess im ok with it.

Im not saying you have to switch, just explaining what is happening there. If you just ran the battery with 6 D's without a booster you would likely save the most money and only lose a few days off your total run time on the camera with the 6 d Back. In hindsight, i wish we would have come with the 4d as the standard pack from the beginning but at the time, customer acceptance and demand was based on AA cameras. The 6 D back was brought for those that didnt want to run external. IN full sun the new 3600 solar is turning out to be the most economical.

I do have some of the old solar panels and Ive ran those over 200 days before I took them down. Unfortunately I dont have much field to utilize them.

This is probably somewhat controversial here, but my cameras are located in a standard hardwood forest in Northern Missouri. Depending on how many pictures the camera is taking, I have had it work with the external solar since before the trees leafed out. I would say it is a complete canopy coverage hardwood stand and for the site I am trying on, it probably takes 5 photos a day using the double barrel strobe in a G camera. So far it has not switched to the internal batteries, but the report has showed it occasionally with external battery low. You might be able to try a solar kit in your area depending on how many photos the camera is taking and how strong the signals are.

It sounds like the camera only used the internals batteries maybe there is something wrong with the cord for the external pack , I have a K home camera set up that way I am at 240 days and my Exif data on my pitchers is still at 7.600 volts, when you go check on camera check all the batteries with a volt meter

The cameras will run down to about 5.5 volts , that is 1.35 volts on each battery (4D cell camera ) if the camera has a 6D cell pack then the volts are also 5.5v but the battery volt are .91 volts with a 6D pack you get many more days of run time , I am not sure at what voltage the camera will say low but I am assuming under 6 volts . I use 4D cell camera with a 6D cell power pack and reuse the battery from the camera in the 6D power packs

Okay, thanks. I will be reusing batteries this year in the 6D packs that I frequent more often. There’s two cameras that I go by so I can swap those out fairly easy.
 
the external batteries reading is based on the voltage of the internals, once they get to the same voltage or below the internals they read low and or switch to internals, they dont switch on a specific voltage level. if you want to get the most out of your externals , you should put the older batteries inside the camera and put 6 new batteries in the external packs. Be aware that if you do this and the batteries in the camera are too low or dead ,the external can go from EXT OK to dead very quickly.

John that’s good to know , let’s do the math 4 D cell camera with a 6 D power pack . 4 D new are 1.60 volts each = 6.4 volts so the external 6 D power pack discharging to 6.4 volt ( then switches to internals) = 6.4 / 6 batteries is 1.06 volts so at that voltage the batteries life is about done ; that gives you about the maximum day from the power pack when it switches over to the internals with new batteries in it you get the maximum from it also. It is good to know that it doesn’t switch on a specific voltage.

Where can you buy replacement power cord for J series cuddelink camera to solar panel PW3600 and is there a part number. It came with 2 cables 1 yellow 1 brown i need the brown cable THANKS FOR ANY HELP

you need the C2-C2 cable , there should be several online retailers that have it , the metal wrapped version is sold out in most places and on backorder until late august.
 
I have a g series camera that has an error code 03 which I believe is a startup failure. I Tried different and batteries and no luck.

I can’t remember what the warranty length is with camera registration is it 2 or 5 years? And can you tell me the procedure if the camera is out of warranty, percent off a new cam etc, fix for x etc?

2 years with online registration , they will offer a trade in value if ts not fixable for cameras 2-5 years old - that is a power on error, make sure you try rayovac in it and that the battery compartment is closed and nothing is causing it to hang up , id also try plugging in a external source if you have one, if that works you may only need a new internal battery pack.

Plugged it into externals fired up updated to 8.3 then. Unplugged and put batteries back in and all appears to be good! Thanks
