Cuddeback's Cuddelink

IMO, the dual flash is a pretty solid camera and runs exactly as advertised. I think it has 2 weaknesses. Black flash range is Average, and the click noise of the filter. While I haven’t noticed any avoidance from it. It still is always in the back of my mind. With the powerhouse black flash though. That would really take that camera to another level.

What's the difference between dual flash models 1361 and 11407? Are they both able to accept the new powerhouse modules?

Peplin Creek,

The IR camera makes the same click noise as the black flash correct?

I believe so, yes. From what I can tell it looks like the same filter. I mounted mine about 6-7 feet off the ground so hopefully it won’t be a big deal.

Ok what is conformal coating? I called cuddeback friday 3/3/18 and asked if the Dual and the J models were the same internally and if they would have the same distance capabilities? (Flash and battery difference) What Bev said was pretty much, she did not go into detail and I didn't ask.

If you'll can explain what conformal coating is I'm interested.

Conformal coating is a thin almost runner-up layer that is put on the PCB boards (electronics) to help protect them from various weather related elements.

As for a the J model and dual flash models being the almost the same....the original flash modules are for both IR and black flash, but the dual flash allows you to upgraded to powerhouse modules, an errr e as the J series does not. As far as battery life, when I called cuddeback I was told that the dual flash you could expect twice the battery life as compared to the J series model. Also, the dual flash model has a battery booster pack and that currently isn't one for the J series model. I believe in the further the dual flash module will be more upgrade friendly, so that's what made my decision. Its an extra $250.00 upfront for a set of 4, but if I can upgrade four cameras to the powerhouse for 50.00 each ($200.00),as opposed to having to buy 4 new cameras ($750.00) if the come out with brighter flash modules for the J series cameras.

just as an FYI to all those interested in the powerhouse flashes. You will be able to order the G model cameras(dual flash ) with the powerhouse flashes already installed, this will save some money over buying the dual flash and then swapping out to the powerhouse flash of your choice. also, There will be solar and d cell battery packs available for the J cameras early summer if not sooner. There will also be a solar option for the G(dual flash cameras).
I ran a mix of both cameras in my system, and i plan on still doing so this year. The j camera with a solar panel will go in areas that i dont ever want to go into and the G cameras will be used with powerhouse flashes of different types depending on the situation. White flash on scrapes on field edge scrapes, IR in food plots and black flash near stands.
The g camera with a powerhouse flash is really a fantastic camera. I'm glad to hear how impressed those who have tried them have been.
The other benefit is that with a powerhouse flash installed the image quality and flash range will stay consistent as the battery level drops. One had to rely on lithium in a aa camera to get that type of performance in the past.

the filter should only move twice a day, once when going from dark to light in morning and the opposite in the evening.

John, I see that the j series has a port on the back, in theory a guy could run his own 6v battery and solar setup and plug into the port correct?

you could but not sure how good it would perform, the solar kit Cudde will be selling will include the batteries. There are rechargeable battery brands and types that dont perform correctly. This is why they will be including them, we want to be sure that it works correctly.

John,

When do you think the option to buy the dual flash with the powerhouse module will be available! I'm already a little concerned about getting more dual flash cameras as they are currently out of stock at Cuddeback and Amazon!

I think it was Willy that had a clicking issue with them. Turned out it was while testing indoors. Something about the lighting. When deployed outside the click went away, If memory serves me. Maybe shoot him a PM and see if I got that correct.

I believe your right. Inside, the camera kept flipping the filter on almost every picture. Outside I believe it only happens when the camera is triggered the first time in daylight hours and again at night time. Very small probability of it actually being an issue in the field. The cameras I ran last year at food plots didn’t seem to bother any. I just decided I would mount mine higher this year on trials and stand sites to take that out of the equation.

I am also assuming that the dual flash camera with a powerhouse module will be a little more expensive than with the normal flash module, so you won't save the complete $50.00! Do you know what the price difference will be for the two types...normal flash module versus powerhouse module?

That is what I remember him saying also.

should be available soon, just waiting on more G cameras(dual flash models) to arrive since they sold out. This year they will come with the link module installed already, you will want to contact a brick and mortar dealer to get the G camera with any powerhouse flash module already installed , this is a program for brick and mortar dealers that is new for 2018. The price savings wont be $50, i think suggested retail will be in the $299 range, where as the dual flash was $279 msrp. I would contact a Cudde dealer and tell them what you need and they can build a quote for you. Brick and mortar cudde dealers will have access to all the new items and can customize any order this year. They can also have that order drop shipped directly to you if you live within a reasonable distance of the store. There has been cudde dealers listed on this thread that can do this but anyone that carries cuddeback has the option to build you a specific system.

Thanks John you are a big help! What's the difference between the model 1361 and the 11407? Is the 11407 a 1361 with the cuddelink cap already installed?

From your last post it it seems that cuddeback will not offer a new model number for the dual flash camera with the powerhouse module and have that model available through retailers like Amazon. Is that correct? If I read your post correctly these will only be available through brick and mortar stored like Cabelas etc....

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm just trying to figure everything out! I already bought 8 dual flash cameras and with the new powerhouse modules I feel like my cameras are already outdated! :-)

11407# will be updated so dont use that number. The 1361 is the dual flash without cuddelink installed, the 3051 is the dual flash with the link cap installed already, i dont have the numbers for each G camera with a powerhouse flash installed yet but yes you will need to go to a dealer if you want to purchase a powerhouse flash installed in a g camera from the factory. If you want any of the powerhouse flashes its best to order it with one since it will save you some $, they are very easy to swap out if you already own a dual flash though. Your cameras aren't outdated there is just more options coming.

I completely understand the desire or need for a powerhouse black flash module, due to the 50 ft flash range and poorer image quality of the black flash vs IR. However, I don't fully understand the need for a powerhouse IR module. I hoping someone can explain to me the advantage of the powerhouse IR module over the original IR module! I know John said image quality wouldn't suffer when the battery were low, but is this the only advantage? I think image quality is affected more by using the 5 megapixel setting (as suggested in the manual when using linked cameras) than it is by anything else!

Also, my cousin bought 4 of the J series black flash cameras and we set them out around his property 2 weeks ago. We went and checked them today and the home camera had 808 pictures and the other 3 all had anywhere from 25 - 75 pictures and when doing a battery load test on them they all were at either 98 or 99%. (Maybe I didn't need to buy the dual flash cameras that claim twice the battery life :-)

This is the status from J series IR this camera has took the most pictures of the one i've got out. As I said when I put the cameras out I used alkaline batteries too see how the camera work. I have not did a battery load test. All the cameras indicate OK on battery level I do not know what other readings they will say. Thats 42 days in field.
These cameras are in southern Tn that will help battery life, not as cold here as up north.

I am like you pointer I don't know the need for the powerhouse IR, distance maybe better. Now the powerhouse black flash does interest me.
