Crow hunting?

What do you do with them?

Usually save for trap bait. But they are hard on waterfowl and other birds due to nest robbing eggs and chick's. So not only is it fun, but I can save some ducks/quail, and catch a yote or 2.

Lol, and the can wipe out an orchard just as the fruit starts getting good! Pest control Naitve?

Yes, I've had a lot of damage in my home orchard from crows. They will pick out the biggest, nicest apples and start in on them. Crows have an attitude that needs adjusting. They would take over the world it they could.

I used to try to sneak my way to 410 range when I was a boy. They would smarten up ridiculously quickly.

Bury them near the tree they were robbing. Then they benefit the tree instead of taking from it.

Bunch of years ago one of our crew out goose hunting shot a crow for some reason, my dog wouldn't pick it up, circled it a few times and looked at my like.a child saying"awe, do I have too??"

I enjoy hunting them. It's a poor substitute for duck hunting, but you make do when you don't live near water. For us, it seems like it's important to drop them if you shoot....seems like crows often keep coming. If you miss I think other crows wise up seeing birds fly away from your setup.

Crows are migratory. I am by a major bird flyway near the mohawk river in NY. See hundreds of them at a time. A little alfred hitchcock feeling sometimes. IT's a drop in the bucket compared to some canadian geese after the crops have been harvested.

I see big fields of geese during rifle season and wonder if they scare away the deer.

that's a good idea.

I don't know anyone who eats thems. They don't seem good for anything. "Wanton waste" is prohibited, so how is that all supposed to fit together? By having an official season obviously the state approves of hunting them.

All I was coming up with is maybe the state only cares about "wanton waste" on animals that have a traditional use.

But bait is a good idea.

In MN, there are three seasons for crows…or anytime if they are doing damage…or about to do damage! The law actually says that. Always thought that was funny.

They are really smart and like Native said... they're intent on world domination. I'm pretty sure if they had thumbs we'd be their slaves.

KS doesnt care how (or how many) you kill them, or what you do with them afterwards. They've basically said just please kill them.

Is there still a season? I had a buddy about 10 years ago that got hemmed up by a new game warden for shooting a crow during teal season. Almost cost him his ability to do an annual duck hunt in Canada because of reciprocity…

In our state regs, it gives the crow season dates - and it used to say “in addition, crows may be killed when committing depredation or about to.” The toughest game warden in the area told me “when a crow draws his first breath, it is about to commit depredation.”

He went to court for it. He said while he waited on his case there was a gal who was there for her 3rd DUI and the guy right before him got pulled over for doing 45 through a 25 mph school zone. He gets up and the judge asked what he did, he says “I shot a crow.” The judge looks at him expecting more in disbelief, looks at the warden who says, “your honor, there is a season.” Judge looks back “DISMISSED!” He goes to Canada a few days later.
