I agree it sounds odd, but a more logical reason is that the texts were fabricated by the perp to try and exonerate the partner that was in on the whole deal all along.

I hope your right but this just feels off to me. Everything from the perp, to the perps dad turning him in, all the "convenient" evidence, the trans lover... All seems way too easy. To clean.
I mean who plans all the intricacies of the shooting, but has no get away planned, just go home? Then all the texts are just plain weird . None of it makes sense because it's too "normal" if that makes sense.
