Anyone with experience on these self defense guns? I've been told these require no permit to carry, yet pack a pretty good punch for self defense. I do not have any experience.

Been reading up on them....and other brands by Umerex (sp?). Seems these guns may provide a means of self defense without getting lethal. Mixed thoughts on that. There is a Walther model that looks of interest. Need to do more reading and watch some YouTube on this stuff.
My thoughts on the non-lethal is that I don't think my wife or daughter would shoot to kill and that with the byrna they may shoot for body mass without a second thought.

Yep. Same thoughts. Also, using lethal weapons these days seems like a sure way to find your way into a long, expensive, legal defense debacle....that could change your life forever.
These weapons may or may not be enough of a deterrent in many situations? Whether they are enough weapon seems like the argument of using of a 380 ACP vs 9mm vs a 45 cal. How much is enough? I would not want someone pointing one of these at me.
Continuing research......need to see some comparisons on YouTube.

Ran into a comparison between the Byrna and Salt Supply S2. The SS S2 seems like a no brainer according to what I have seen so far.....until you get down to size and weight and features. I still have never held one of these guys....but if a person was going to carry one....it sure looks like you would want the Byrna SD model. I gotta wonder if Salt wont have a more compact model to follow?

I was in law enforcement 32 years. I've seen the kind of people that you need to worry about reach down and pull taser probes out more than once. Mentally disturbed people, your biggest threat, are often immune to pain compliance that you attempt to gain through less lethal means.
It's not easy to know how a person will respond when their life is on the line and they know it. You'd be surprised how many people CAN pull the trigger. It's easy for anyone, including them, to say they couldn't when they don't have to. Most people, thankfully, will never know how they respond in that situation, and it's nearly impossible to replicate.
Tasers changed law enforcement when they came out. Full-on physical confrontations between LE and suspects pretty much turned into compliance at the sight of the taser coming out. But, mentally disturbed people are a different subject.

Conversly, it would be shame to get shot and killed because you pointed one of those at someone.
I've seen lots of of film of 40mm less lethal rounds bouncing off people like they weren't even there.

It's a very high priority in my life to never need to defend my family's lifes. If I ever do it will be resolute and with little left to chance.

I prefer if law enforcement didn’t give bad guys a do over later in life to put innocent people in danger. Lethal force is the only force if you need it in my opinion
If was confident that my wife, daughter or DIL could shoot without a long hesitation I wouldn't be as interested in these as I am.
Hesitation is death in life and death situations. If they can and would hit the perpetrator in the chest with something that disables them, it could save their life

Could or might disable them..... When it doesn't then they have a real agitated problem to deal with.
If they wouldn't have shot with intent to kill it would be the same situation. I have no vested interest in this product, I can just see someone having second or third thoughts about shooting someone and be the victim.

The reason I got to looking at these was that I have a freind that asked me about them. Seems his grandson is getting beat up by some bullies all too often and is looking for some way to stop the aggression without being lethal. Evidently the young man gets "picked-on" allot. He asked me to look into them.....as he is afraid that if his grandson had a lethal firearm that it could be he ends up in court and / or prison.....you know the drill.
The thinking is....that if you incapacitate someone long enough to get away.....maybe it's a solution? I cannot imagine getting hit by two or three rounds of the pepper-ball ammo. Still......I dunno what to tell him.

I'm thankful I was blessed with older and younger siblings. My older brothers tormented me, but shame on anyone who wasn't family and did the same...
I was going to order one to send to my daughter but they asked me to wait until they come up this summer to discuss what and why.
Before she went to work in DC my son and I had her show us how to make a couple kinds of pistols safe. She had shot long guns but not so much pistols.
Funniest part of pistol target shooting was, she said " No way someone riding a horse at full gallop can turn around and shoot someone on another horse."
I guess i watch too many westerns.

How old is the grandson? I'd be hesitant to put something that looks like a gun in a kids hand who's being bullied. Pepper spray might be a better solution, but retaliation later might be sucky. What about some MMA lessons? Give him a chance to defend himself for life. I don't know the whole situation but I could see bringing a weapon of any sort into it being an escalation.

I really do not know the details either....and not sure if it's the same perp's or he just gets picked on. Dunno. I wonder if pepper spray or mace is not a better solution too? But those are not perfect under every scenario either. I've not got enough info to offer advice here.....and no first hand knowledge.
I wonder about pulling one of these.....and the perp pulling the real deal...."in self defense". They look like authentic firearms. Tho the orange color may provide some consideration.
