Berms for apple trees

Throw at me some cheap ideas for building berms for planting sites.

I would also like ideas on how big of a berm is enough for various rootstocks.

I do have one area of spill where we had an old dirt pile for fill by her house. It has worked out well.

Ideally you would like the berm to have at least 18" above the water level. Most apple roots are in the top 18" of soil. Obviously the larger the tree the larger the berm is going to need to be or the trees would need to be staked somehow. If I was going to try it I would try B118 root stock first.

I probably need more swamp crab!

I added a larger crab to a swamp crab rootsotck and got great growth. I need to work a few more.
Last spring I found another crab growing near a swamp. It needs to be released.
