Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

What do you know, a real live troll. He actually lives below the bridge.

I just had to block Matt on the old forum. I used to be a lot more active back then, and he was just impossible to have discourse with.

Wow!....there's a blast from the past! Matt Doofus. Wonder if the "lodge" is still in biz? He certainly rode a tall pony....in his own mind anyway. Kinda wonder about a guy like that.....did his balloon ever land?

Wonder how many 2.5 year olds he and the camp layed down this fall.

Man I had forgotten about Doofy.

I've tried to forget him...but he was just such a blowhard. Constantly raining on everybody's parade....he'd throw gas on the fire of every thread and then stand back and cry "whoa...what happened???".....and how can you forget his prodigious use of the Blood Glow! Seemed like every one of his clients wounded a deer that ran off never to be found.

Didn't he find a year old carcass of bones and did in-field pics with it like he shot it than morning?

Just left the sci show in Nashville. Now I have ZERO doubt there will be a thermal season in the next 10 years or less.

Wish I would have known you were going. Could have looked up some professional hunter buddies of mine from Zimbabwe. They usually stay at my place between DSC and SCI - but since DSC is now in Atlanta - I was too far out of the way.

The Africa stuff looks cool. Did you see the meateater recently where they went to Africa. Looked amazing. Way different perspective from why I had. If you haven’t seen it, check it out on YouTube.

Well we won't be doing it.
Neither will I but I promise it will be defended adamantly just like every single piece of technology that is currently legal. " As long as it's legal, I have no problem with it" will still be the mantra.

There was a helmet with thermal mounted on top and some kind of meta glasses you wear that displays what the thermal is seeing. It was disgusting. Remember this is a hunting show…

Guy was saying guides now are using thermal binos to glass for big game now even in daylight since it will penetrate brush

Sounds gay. Id have a hard time believing average Joe hunter gets on board with that.

Per chance have you been to Africa? Like many things I never had a desire to go till life delivered me there. Once there I was gut hooked. Amazing place. I've been to S. Africa several times, Zimbabwe some, Tanzania --my absolute favorite, and Kenya. For a southern redneck boy it's perfect as I would go in summer when it's too hot to breathe in La. but winter there. And there are countless things to hunt and see.

I've been in some pretty hairy situations there . While we all sit in our lounge chair visualizing how cool, how calm we would be with a Cape buffalo, or lion, or... lots of critters that likes to kill you...its an altogether situation when you are only a few yards away and as the saying goes....they look at you like you owe them money . And they are afraid of you in the least

I have not, got invited to go to Zimbabwe in April but I just can’t make it work this year. It’s weird. I had zero desire whatsoever to go until I watched that series on MeatEater. I’m sure there are some really cheesy places over there where it’s not actually hunting but the place that he went looked absolutely amazing. And the level of conservation and management that the professional hunters exhibited was inspiring.

There are so many amazing things there. The trackers--beyond belief. The variety of animals, the incredible sense of wildness. Hunting experiences you cannot get here. Tracking buffalo, then realize lions are in front of you tracking the same herd. Being in the middle of a herd of elephants listening to their stomachs gurgle and feeling more than a tad nervous. { Having you PH get in a gunfight with poachers...I'll leave that story for now } . The Masai....and we think we are hunters. On and on...
