Acorns with caps

Does anyone know if acorns with caps still on, picked from a tree will still germinate if put in the fridge? came across some young oaks today with massive acorns that were still hanging. I picked a bunch off the tree but the caps are still on and would not come off without pulling away some of the acorn. Will they still germinate?

The caps will easily come off later. I collected some Red Oak acorns a couple days ago. Some with caps - some without. I just put them in a zip lock baggie in the barn fridge and will direct seed them into the ground in the spring. The caps will come off easily by then and won't hurt a thing.

Here are some I collected a couple years ago that are now well on their way to becoming oak trees.

Thanks!!

I been drying mine before I refrigerate them. I also will put them in damp peat moss In the baggie in the fridge.

Don’t listen to me!

I think I dried em out too much!

I was concerned about mold, but I ended up with a lot of floaters.
