2022 Crops

2022 crops are off to a tough start. Maybe 10% planted in my area (McLeod, Carver, Sibley, Wright county MN). I was able to get 2/3 of my soybeans planted. I pattern tiled some of my ground in 2016, and it paid off huge this year. I was able to go in and no till my best ground, and it should emerge today or tomorrow. My no till fields look great with little erosion. Some of the tilled fields are a HUGE mess. MN and Dakotas are way the F behind on planting and the outlook is not good. Almost no corn planted around where I farm. Lots of storm damage, including hail on the new to me truck.

Hard to imagine, but we are much better off then people west of us. I'm guessing really soon lots of people are gonna find out that they are massively underinsured on some of their insurance policies for building, grain bins, etc....

My row crop guy was going to no till soybeans in to my ground and then glysophate spray two weeks latter to kill the fescue at least that was my understanding of his plan. I think the rain we have had may have prevented this from going as planned. Grass is getting so tall now I think he would be better off bailing it first then moving forward with his plan. I saw several guys this week bailing hay already in my area.

Seems pretty bad across most the state. Talked to a good college buddy from the mahnomen area this week that farms and sells crop insurance. He said nobody had corn planted yet up there and was getting real anxious to get going.

Most insurance companies h hereave been raising rate to cover higher cost of building.We had a tornado go though about 25 miles away that did alot of damage to almost 500 buildings.I did hear about a guy that has a new 80K boat and insurance was only going to pay 20% of value on it.Some guys here in our part of Kansas have tiled some but we haven't on any of our ground.Milo and full season beans are going in along with some cotton

Millennium farmer is in my area. 7 miles from me. He got hit hard. We had several small twisters go through and 90-100 mph straight line winds. (Western Mn)

I was adding a few soybean seeds to some thin spots and tiny drownouts today. I noticed the first flowers today. These beans were no-till planted May 7th. They are looking a little tough with the hot dry weather. I had 100# Potash, 50# AMS and 40# of DAP spread on them today. Yield goal of 65-70 BPA. EXCELLENT weed control with no-till.





This corn was planted May 21. At 32 days old its already knee high and looks EXCELLENT. Tillers shooting off the stalks has always been an excellent sign in my fields. This corn is planted into soybean stubble that I left alone last fall. This spring I had fertilizer spread and I field cultivated it one time and planted. There is not a weed in the field. The less tillage I do, the less weeds I have. Would make 275 BPA if everything went perfect, but 225-240 has been pretty normal last 3 corn crops. Could sure use some water though. It gotta dry in a hurry with the heat. Lawns going dormant and tile lines have stopped running. Some awfully big cracks in the ground for June. Good thing is its sending them corn and bean roots deep. About 95% of my corn looks excellent. 5% looks poor to very poor.

My boss lives just down the road from you and said he didn't get very much. We got over 4 inches north of St Cloud. A little too much judging by all the flooded fields.

Holy crap that’s a bummer! Daily email from agrible.com said 0.24” at home and 0.83” at the kanabec county property.

I just checked this thread. I'm sorry to see your storm damage. I hope you and others in the Midwest get compensated for the damage. God bless farmers. Good luck with your crops the remainder of the year.
