Traditions Nitro Fire Muzzleloader

White Oak

5 year old buck +
I've never owned a Muzzleloader before, just rifle and bow hunt. The new Traditions Nitro Fire is neat and I'd be willing to buy one...BUT I only buy guns MADE IN THE USA. Do you think any other Muzzleloader manufactuers will make Muzzleloaders that take the Federal Fire stick ?. Or is it pattened so Only Traditions can make them.

Looks like they have a deal with Traditions.

I think that fire stick thing is a faddish gizmo anyway. You’d be better off with a regular inline. JMHO.

BTW, my muzzle loader is American made. It's made by Knight, and it's excellent.

I wasn’t familiar with it until this post. My ML technology is older and I’m not up to date on developments. I’m happy using loose powder and #11 caps in my early inlines. I’m not sure you can buy a new online rifle that doesn’t use 209 primers. But I can still buy what I need even though the company that made my rifles has been gone for 15+ years.

This looks easy. Retail is expensive. 2 .50 cal load options so can adjust load a bit for accuracy. If it survives long enough, Federal will want to license it to other rifle mfg. Chicken and egg. Need enough owners to keep Federal making these. And enough people willing to chance they won’t be able to buy these for their rifles in 2-5 years.

Can you use the rifle with loose powder or pellets?

I'm hearing CVA is coming out with a Muzzleloader this year compatible with the Federal Fire Sticks

Yep, Traditions was given a 1 year proprietary deal with Federal. Now anyone can make them.

Neat idea, legal in MO. I've been kicking around getting one for some time..

All the traditionalists are angry about it, but I think the fact you can use a .243 AR pistol has made "alternative methods" just now a second rifle season anyway :emoji_rolling_eyes:

I build traditional flintlock and caplock muzzleloaders as a hobby. I am totally OK with folks using the latest technology. I want a hunter to have everything available to ethically harvest a deer.

That being said, hunting 200 yards or less, there is little need for anything fancier than your modern inline. I shoot 80 grains real blackpowder, a harvester sabot, 240gr hornady XTP hollow points, and a common 209 shotgun primer. My thompson center omega is zeroed at 150 yards. Pretty much 2 inches high until you get around 150. 2 inches low at 175 and 5 inches low at 200. I stop at 150 yards most years. If I practice more and the conditions are right, I'd take a 200 yard shot. Each shot is about 70 cents, or atleast used to be with what I have......

My 45 years old eyes arent what it used to be....... I use the open sight flintlocks at 75 or less. Usually bring old and new styles with me. When it rains, only the inline.

Some folks need the range for open area hunts. Folks with their own land and designed habitat, not so much........

I sent Federal a e mail asking if any other gun makers would be making Muzzleloaders that use their Firesticks. I got a reply stating there has been interest from several manufacturers BUT couldn't go into details
