My 11 year old nephew's first deer

5 year old buck +
I took my nephews bowhunting tonight at my land and we had a blast. I was able to watch both of them from a distance and they were covered up with deer. My property seems to really be drawing in the neighboring deer this year. Anyways my younger nephew was hunting out of a ground blind and shot his first deer ever. It was funny cause he passed on the doe then shot her button fawn. He said he wanted to make sure she could have more fawns next year. It was a liver shot but died quickly. I'm a proud uncle with two new hunting buddies who are hooked for life!

Way to go Riggs!

Keep the kids involved, regardless of our situation.

Thanks guys. I think he's most excited about having some jerky made.

That smile says it all, good job! Tell him congrats.

That's great.

Always great to see the next generation of hunters!

Congrats to both of you!

Congrats! Gotta love a grin like that! Looks like a chunky and very healthy button head...he'll eat well!

I think its great when the next generation knows passing a doe leads to more deer down the road - I wish more kids were not put into the 'I hope a see any deer this year' scenario.

Both my nephews signed your original petition Brooks then they had some friends sign as well. You started a movement and people took notice so don't stop educating! I would love to see some future MDDI projects geared for kids.

Congrats!!

All MDDI efforts are geared towards kids.

I could envision some youth seminars or Outdoor News ads educating kids on the importance of growing the herd as well as eliminating cross tagging of their tags. I know my nephews are trying to soak up as much info as they can about deer hunting but a lot of the good education comes from forums which I feel they are a bit young for yet. They like to watch hunting shows but that's not reality for them. There are a lot of good kids out there that need some solid direction from the adults.

Congrats Riggs! Keep up the good work!

That smile say's it all. Way to go.

More success tonight for my other nephew. We trailed this one 80 yds after waiting an hour and the damn thing jumped up and took off. Found it two hours later and it was a perfect shot. This was his first deer as well.

Good deer..... Nice shot too

I'm glad they were able to wrap up their season successfully with nothing getting wounded. Time to get serious now and spend some days in a tree.

And I like it that they used their youth tags without an elder stealing them!

I'm surprised it got that far with the shot he made. Congrats to both hunters
