Carolla where no carolla has been before!

Well it was an interesting day yesterday at my place. We have an old carolla that my daughter used to drive but we lost 4th and 5th gear in the manual trans so the car has sat for a while. After trying to sell it to even salvage yards for $300, it looks like it's headed to the scrap yard. But my son wanted to have some fun with it before we did.....

So he painted it....1/2 of it with glossy black rattle can paint...including the number "3" on the door! Only 1/2 because he ran out of paint. And of course removed the exhaust system....like any self-respecting redneck does! So now it sounds like an angry bumble bee! We have been thrashing it around the farm..... We only have 3 gears but we make them count. It fires right up with a jump start. The car was previously rolled so one side of it is a little beat up as it is (passenger side). We fixed what we could and even re-built the engine....but soon after that the trans went ca-put and it's already been a loss. He finally ran it to the point last night that he spun the tire off the wheel. He has been driving it around our field edges/tractor paths and even took it up into the woods on an old logging trail! The deer have no idea what to think! I figure the scrap yard is gonna give me the same price if it's in one pieces or several...so we might as well have some fun with it!

I plan on teaching my youngest daughter how to drive a manual with this car once we get a new battery in it. We can only start it by jumping it. My son says the "3" on the door added 20 horse!!! There are plans to add some high octane fuel to it and give is a shot of nitrous into to air intake as well. We are certainly goon have some fun with it before it goes.....

Not the best video.....but I am sure there will be others!

Lol, I've done this with a whole fleet of cars in my lifetime. Being a demo and fig-8 driver and always demanding to test and tune in the pasture has made sure we always had something going.

So this has been interesting AND proved my point on my position on NOT having an ATV on the farm. I have long refused to have an ATV on the farm because I felt certain people would be very dangerous with it AND tear things up! Yep....Captain Deet-da-dee himself...Junior!

So as soon as he got the tire fixed he drove the car exactly where I told him NOT to. It took him 30 minutes or more trying to get it out. It was up near where I got the tractor stuck....we all remember that mess. There is a steep but short hill to get out of there and I knew he would not have the momentum or traction to get up it. And...he didn't...at least for roughly 30 minutes of trying or so. He wasn't going to ask for help...and I was gonna make him walk all the way back to the house for help if it came to that! It wasn't "stuck"....he just couldn't get it up the hill!!! So that pissed him off. So now it has some sort of light truck tires on it and bigger wheels on the front. Now....now he wants to ramp it! I have the means, I'm just not sure he understands that cars are not meant to fly. My fear is that a foot in height will grow to 2...then 3 and then...something really bad will happen. I figure the air bag will deploy or he will lock and break an arm or the like. Good thing the damn thing only has 3 gears in it. He actually admitted he "may" wear a seat-belt for that stunt!! I am surprised he hasn't taken the doors off of it yet....not sure it has crossed his mind...and NO I'm not bringing it up! It also now has a full rattle can black paint job and several red-neck slogans painted on it as well. He named it "the intimitater".... It has to go come the end of July...but at this point he may be able to sell it to someone else to beat the crap out of for a while if he doesn't blow it up....all depends on how far he things ahead.....

So I went out and took some pics.

The tires are worse than I thought...they are studded snow tires off a ford ranger!

I wasn't able to take pics of all the different saying on the car....this is a family show!

Just like Ricky Bobby - he loves his Fig Newtons!!! And yes...he likes to go fast!

And off course - with a manual you gotta have a "Hurst" T handle shifter....adds 10 horse!!!

These are memories he will have for life! Not to mention, the driving experience he gains from beating on this car. If the shenanigans go on with no permanent injuries, its a win!

Last night we had some left over veggies that the wife wanted disposed of. My boy was like....I got it! Now I'm not sure why it took several "laps" to drop those veggies off in my food plots for the critters...but it did! My poor deer have to be thinking the neighborhood has gone to hell in a hand basket!

Isn't there a demolition derby in the area?

All the county fairs have been canceled this year so no derby no figure 8 races. He and some of his buddies are trying to talk me into allowing them to do some sort of "rally"..... That's not going to happen anytime soon. The crops are still in and once the crops come out it's deer season. I do have priorities! The agreement is that the car is gone by the end of july....(and he has to stick to it because he lives in MY house) so I think they simply intend on having as much fun as they can and then finding some means to see just what it will take to blow it up! They want to take it somewhere else to beat the crap out of it or the like....I don't care....just not at my house. Who knew only 3 gears could be so much fun!

Maybe I forgot to add this....

"For sale" 2002 Corolla, gently used thrashed (rolled once -thus calling it a CAR-Rolla), low miles on re-built engine and clutch (actually true - engine was rebuilt due to a broken valve and clutch was replaced as well), 5 speed (ok - fine.... 3 speed + reverse), Silver Black rattle can paint, Grey interior, exhaust enhancements (ok - virtually no exhaust)...sounds good (like a pissed off bumble bee), custom hand painted graphics....studded snow tires on front....just in time for winter! $500 - negotiable! Serious Inquiries only....Hahahaha, who am I kidding....if you want something to beat the crap out of for a while, or teach a teenager how to drive a manual, and have some fun, this could be the best $$$ you ever spend! One of a kind....own "The Intimitater!":emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing:

We used to refer to the condition of such a car as "ratbagged."

If the exhaust is giving him issues, see if he can flip the manifold over and shoot it straight out the hood.

He told me he thought about the exhaust manifold.....but being a transverse engine the manifold is between the engine and the firewall and not really that easy to access.....otherwise I am sure he would. He just cut the exhaust off with a saw-all just behind the front seats....just like he tends to do with almost everything else he drives. He spun the tire off the wheel...again...last night. They was cranking doughnut's in reverse - since it's front wheel drive and the rough ground caused the tire to catch the fender and thus spun the tire off the wheel. He and his buddy had this look on their face like they had just broken their favorite toy! He has an army buddy coming home soon and the plan is to ramp it. I'm not sure how high this ramp will be....but I am certain it will fly at least for a brief moment. I told him...flying is the easy part.....it's that sudden stop at the end that get's ya! So far the only damage has been a busted marker light and some torn up grass and dirt. Funny how when you try to break something they seem to be nearly bullet proof...yet you depend on them and that is when they fall apart....

Well they did it....they ramped the 'Rolla..... There is a better video - I just have to get my hands on it.... Ramp was only 24" tall....the got abut 4 feet or bette rint he air and the initial impact was nearly 30 yards form the end of the ramp!!

reminds me of my H.S. days. One of my buddies had a full sized Blazer that we use to jump some railroad tracks a couple miles out of town with. None of us should be alive today but we all are. Hit them one time with a buddies 76 nova and bent the shit out of the frame and broke all of the headlights out. I won't mention how fast we were going with the Blazer.
