Brand NEW Moultrie camera not taking photos?? Please help

Am I doing something wrong, or is it a defective camera?? I bought a brand new Moultrie camera. I think its a model A800 or something like that. I have had it out 2 times for days at a time and I know deer are coming by but it doesn't take any photos after the initial setup. I go through the setup, ending with the "delete and format" memory card step, and then push the switch all the way up to the "on" position. I have it on 0 second delay, 3 photos per trigger, and it takes a photo roughly every second when I walk in front of it right after the setup. after I leave the camera, it doesn't take another photo of any deer or animals or anything. when I return and walk up to check the camera it doesn't take any photos of me. it seems to work fine right after the setup but then doesn't take any more photos. has anyone else had this problem? I'm using brand new class 10, 16 GB memory cards, not "ultra high speed" as the instructions suggest and new batteries

gonna try this, from the link above:
  • Try a “hard reset”. To do this: (1) remove the batteries and the SD card from the camera. (2) With the batteries and SD card removed, turn on (switch it to Quick Start, Custom Start, or On) the device for one minute. (3) After one minute, turn the camera Off, insert the batteries and SD card and turn the unit back on.

I had the same issue with a Moultrie camera last year. A hard reset worked for me. Customer service was less than useless. Had to figure it out on my own.

The last time I bought a Moultrie I had to return new camera's several times before I got one that worked. I think the 4th one finally did the job. Customer service was fine. I would call, tell them what happened, they would tell me to send it back and they would replace it. I think they even upgraded it once. The one that I ended up with worked well for 4-5 yrs before it crapped out (And that may have been my fault as the strap broke and I didn't find it laying on the ground for a summer. I think the way it was laying was letting water in.). I haven't bought one since...

I gave up on Moultrie in 2014. Try a Browning, if you don't get it sorted out.

have you ever tried Bushnell cameras, and if so, how would you compare the Browning to the Bushnells? Me and my brother's have used Bushnells for many years and have always liked them, but we heard good things about Browning. Only reason I bought this Moultrie is I needed a quick camera for a particular place and that's all they had at the Walmart before I headed to the woods

I have not. A friend used Bushnell 3-4 years ago and was very happy with them. I just started buying some Tactacam Reveal cell cams for $99. Really impressed, but only 2 months in.

I have been using Bushnell Trophy cams since 2008. I bought 2 in 2008, 2 more in like 2012 and 2 more in like 2016. The 2008 cameras are still working, along with the others. I have had decent luck, in general. I have had a couple where I have to mess with the settings, due to taking false pics. But, I can usually resolve that by the sensitivity setting.

I'm guessing the reset will probably solve your problem, for a while anyway.
I have 3 moultrie cameras that are well over ten years old that still work like clocks. On the other hand, everything moultrie I've bought the last 5 years has been garbage. I've gotten to the point I'm replacing everything with reconyx from here on out.

This has been our exact experience with moultries. Newer ones just don't hold up as well.

I have a couple old m80's that still might be my favorite cameras. Then i bought a newer one that the pics just looked funny and havent bought one since

I did the "hard reset" as I explained above and it still doesn't work. I said 12 years or so ago when my brothers and I bought our first trail cameras, one a moultrie, and several others bushnell's, that I would never buy a moultrie camera again. well, all these years later I was in a pinch as I explained above, decided to give a new moultrie a try, and it doesn't even take photos except for right after the setup. then it doesn't take any more photos.

I moved a moultrie to a feeder because I wanted to move the browning somewhere else and it would only take a few pics per day which I suspected was not correct, even if just of squirrels and coons.I switched back to the browning and it's taking 5 times the pics the moultrie did.Now to find out why. This is one reason I order all mine from trailcampro.com

Went through several, they were the nicer management series. All junk. Never again.
