After logging 7 years ago the hazelnut in my woods exploded. They are everywhere but I have only seen nuts on one tree ever and this was before the logging. Any thoughts why there are no nuts?. I have to think they must of regenerated from the roots like aspen or alder and not any nuts. I...

    To late for rye?

I wasn't able to get up to my land since July. I finally made it up and over seeded my beans and also lightly disked and seeded some rye. This is in NW Wisconsin. Do you think this rye will grow enough to make it thru winter? Was it a waste of time planting it this late this far north?

Why not more love for seedling antovonka planted for deer?

I bought a few antovonka seedlings a while back (6 -7 )years ago. I'm downright impressed with these trees. They seem to grow fast and seem to be tough. The trunk and branches are just solid compared to alot of my other apples. They are supposed to grow huge( which is good in bear country). Also...

    Alder shearing/ usda program

When I logged 7 years ago my forester mentioned that I would be a perfect candidate for a grant to shear my upland mature tag alder to benefit grouse, woodcock, and songbirds. I just started the ball rolling and hope to get it done next winter. I was a little hesitant because I have a lot of...
