Thoughts on why my hazelnuts dont produce

After logging 7 years ago the hazelnut in my woods exploded. They are everywhere but I have only seen nuts on one tree ever and this was before the logging. Any thoughts why there are no nuts?. I have to think they must of regenerated from the roots like aspen or alder and not any nuts. I...

    Killing buckthorn in winter?

Has anyone tried cutting buckthorn and spraying stumps with torodon or triclopyr 4 during the winter. Will this work this time of year? I thinking about doing this in a week or two before the forestery mulcher runs through there. Is it a waste of time or should I just wait till it sprouts up...

    To late for rye?

I wasn't able to get up to my land since July. I finally made it up and over seeded my beans and also lightly disked and seeded some rye. This is in NW Wisconsin. Do you think this rye will grow enough to make it thru winter? Was it a waste of time planting it this late this far north?

Why not more love for seedling antovonka planted for deer?

I bought a few antovonka seedlings a while back (6 -7 )years ago. I'm downright impressed with these trees. They seem to grow fast and seem to be tough. The trunk and branches are just solid compared to alot of my other apples. They are supposed to grow huge( which is good in bear country). Also...

    Spreading American plum thicket

Just wanted to put up a few pics of my plum trees and how fast they are spreading and growing for anyone that might be thinking about planting some. You can see the mother trees in the back, all the light green trees and sticks are root suckers that have shot off the row of the 7 original...

    Ice storm tree damage recovery

Just came back from our land. There was a bad rain, freezing rain, then heavy snow storm around the new year. This pic is my logging road with my 7 year old aspen bent over horizontal over the trail. They were doing so good. Anybody know if these trees have a chance to recover? Will they...

Not what i wanted to see.

I'm pretty sure this is a wolf. I haven't had a picture of a deer in 9 days after getting a pic off deer almost everyday. I've had my property almost 20 years and have had many pictures of coyote but never a wolf. I did see one a few years ago while bowhunting.

    Alder shearing/ usda program

When I logged 7 years ago my forester mentioned that I would be a perfect candidate for a grant to shear my upland mature tag alder to benefit grouse, woodcock, and songbirds. I just started the ball rolling and hope to get it done next winter. I was a little hesitant because I have a lot of...

    What's going on here?

I have 4 30 year old apple trees in my yard. The last couple years they have been getting black and bark look like it is dying out. Anybody know why? Is there something I can spray or do to cure this. The branches look like they are dying but there is new growth coming out of them all over.

Will this work for a dove plot?

I had a bag of b.o.b 7 card draw. It is mostly oats, triticale, with a little rape and radish. I added a good amount of buckwheat and some sunflower seeds. The kid wanted to try to harvest some doves this September. My plan is just to let everything mature and maybe mow a few strips thru the...
