Made it to the farm today

Two of my neighbors planted it this year. One with a tiller.

the smart one bought a tree planter. He planted 14,000 trees then switched over to MG.

The planter got delivered after mine was in the ground :(

next time....

Awesome! What is the tree planter? Id love to find something like that! I think I guy could make a mint renting that out. They are nowhere to be found here. If you get trees through the NRCS office they have one, but its not available to rent otherwise.

I’m not sure. I know they rented one from NRCS and hated it. They drove to Georgia to pick it up. Notice the hydraulic cylinder between the kids. That is to compensate for hills.
The one from NRCS slides down a hill when your going across it. Which makes the trench and closing wheels miss each other.
This one adjust so you can re align everything.

Cool piece!

I know a monoculture is bad but I love a clover field for the first few years when it’s weed free.

no mowing here. Maybe later in the year if some weeds show up.

my new plots don’t look bad for spring planted rye and clover. Hopefully the clover gets enough root growing before it gets hot and makes it go dormant. I may just over seed in August anyway. Insurance...

No pic. Maybe I’ll take one tomorrow. All my beans look good except a 3 acre patch where I used year old beans. That one will get replanted soon.

Clover looks great Bill. What beans do you plant?

That's some fine looking clover Bill.

That clover looks good. What variety and rate did you plant?

I’m of not use when it comes to maturity group etc. I always plant what the local seed dealer is giving to the local farmers. This year I did have to go with a new dealer because I planted early when it was cold and my guy didn’t have coated seed in bags.
I ended up with “enlist” beans which means you can spray gly, liberty and 2,4-D on them. Again they are what the local farmers are using.

nothing fancy. Again what my local dealer had. A medium red and ladino white.

rate is ? I planted 3 times. This is on a piece of ground I lease. The farmer let me take this 1 acre for a plot. He just forgot to tell his sprayer who killed it twice. I shoot for about 6 - 8 lbs total per acre.

Replanted this 3 acres today. Year old beans planted in April. I’ve always had much better luck with year old beans. But it was a cold wet spring. Possibly that in combination with tired beans was the kiss of death.

now I just hope it doesn’t turn dry. If it does we’ll regroup and do a rye/clover/brassica thing and cross our fingers....

Rains keep missing me a little south of you Bill, if we don't get rain in the next 24-48 hours.. Looks like a dry week+ after that!

yeah we’re getting to that time of the year when rain is in the form of a thunderstorm not so many of those slow long rains left for this summer.

Yep, I'm afraid that's the case. Now that I got my summer plot in..

Do you spray simazine in your new plantings to cut down on other weeds? If so, when do you apply?

we planted late April. Right after planting I rode down the rows with a spray wand and hit it with simazine and round up.

today I did it again with simazine and 2,4-D. After that it’s on its own. It’s atrazine/simazine resistant so spray timing shouldn’t be an issue. That I know of anyway. My only fear is that it’s hot and it may stunt it in combination with the spray.

I know Scott just plants it and walks away and his looks good so I may be over thinking it....
