Brute 'N Bottoms

The first hunt at Brute 'N Bottoms did not disappoint. My brother and I headed for one of the box blinds we built this summer, and I told him it was going to be a good hunt because all the beans other than ours in the neighborhood had begun to turn yellow. We were on a 4 acre bean field, and the deer have been hitting it really hard. We had does and little bucks around most of the night, and with about 15 minutes of shooting light left one of our better bucks on this farm stepped into the field. He was with a few does and they worked their way towards us eating bean leaves like he knew they would be turning yellow any day. He got 20 yards from the blind and he got an arrow sent his way. We backed out and let him be due to the hit being a little low. I called up a local guy out of Eau Claire with a dog and it was the correct call. After 100 yards blood quit, and we let the dog go to work. Without the dog we had no chance of finding this buck because he was in some nasty stuff and blood was minimal.

Pretty buck and really impressive kill on first sit. If u are happy harvesting bucks like that, that's great, if u want to take your farm to the next level, u have to pass bucks like that.
You are young and primed to kill, I get that, I was there to. That tract of land appears to have some major potential, not just 130" potiental, but u have to let those bucks walk if u want to be shooting 150,60s, plus.

Leave it to Dipper to try and tell you how you have to pass deer like that in order to shoot bigger deer.

Great buck and I highly doubt a few more inches of antler would make your brother any happier unless you have a severe case of antler porn addiction. His frame looks like one that would top out in the 140's, perfect deer to take.

What? At least on harvest photos can you keep your evaluation to yourself. That is a stud buck.

I'm the biggest antler junkie, right. I haven't shot a buck in 2 years, and countless does. I'm just rock hard for antlers. I've got 3 bucks on my place that I've seen in person between 135-160 and I haven't gone out yet....ya, I'm rock hard. We are gonna try shooting a doe tomorrow, ahhhh, those antlers. Please, get over yourself.
I said congrats and good job. Shooting all 130" deer isn't going to get you mega bucks. If young deer trip your trigger, great.
Your brains might not be sharp enough to remember, but this young man was asking how to take his property to the next level, some time back. I told him than and told him now, that place has enormous potential, and could possibly get to truely world class hunting.
Get over your insecurities and replace the chork between your ears. I'm not talking antler porn, I'm helping him maximize the potiental of that property. If u don't get it that's fine.
I could say some more but it's not worth my time.

My goal for this property was to harvest 4 year old bucks and older, no 3 year olds. This buck met the criteria in my opinion, and it fell into place perfectly. No regrets, we're super jacked! I have put a lot of work into this farm since we purchased it at the beginning of the year, this hunt made it all worth it.

We didn't put a tape on him yet. We will get him measured up and I'll post what it came out to.

White-Route the buck took.
Green-Late maturing soybeans.

Blue-Water Hole. We didn't let him get that far though.

What was the wind direction from the setup in the pic?

It was a NW wind. The view below north is straigiht up so you can see where the wind was blowing.



We will be experimenting with ozonics and nose jammer used together, and to see if a we can get away in a blind with a less than ideal wind.

Nice work, that's a cool buck. Can you tell us a little more about the shot and the trailing job - how long did you give the deer, was it a 1 lung hit or liver, guts, etc? How far did the deer end up going?

How much did it cost to have the blood trailing dog help out? I think allowing blood trailing dogs is a great idea

If ure after a 4 year old, it is fair to take a buck like that. It will be interesting to see if he's a 3 or 4. Have any better pics of body?
I'm kinda leaning a 4 year old just by mass of antlers. A couple tines over 8" is pretty good time length. I don't know if it makes much over a 14"spread.
It will look nice on his wall. Lots of good character!

How do u know he came all the way around that field?
If u had an Area clear cut I wouldn't think u would see bedding so quick. How do u know he bedded there?
