2015 Scion or other seed Swap Thread

Ed - just a ? - How is your Galarina growing for you? I was thinking of trying one. Any probs.?

Roxbury Russet
Sansa
Winecrisp
Zestar

I was able to successfully graft all but the Northwest Greening from Eds list because he never sent me any LOL By the way Ed those are all in the ground and hopefully will make it through the winter. they will get a good test this week with temps going down to around zero. There will be limited scion from the apples I planted this past spring

Paul

Paul I should be able to get you everything you want but the Roxbury Russett. I lost that tree last winter. Winecrisp and sansa might be limited but i can likely get you one stick. The rest should be no issue.

You've got a great list and i'll have to do some thinking on what i would like :)

Read my opening line!!!! I took that post from the pm I sent you on the QDMA forum last year. I dont need any of those this year as I have grafts that took from the scions you sent me last year. I am looking for cider varieties this year or something vintage

Paul

If I was to head back the central leader on my trees that were grafted last spring, could that wood be used for scion? Thoughts?

I am sure there are smarter guys here on the forums who know for sure but I would think since its new growth of the previous year it should be able to work as a scion and be grafted to a root. I hope its the case because its a great idea :)

I'm sure it will take SC, but I'd bet they will branch out, so I'm not sure I would use them. That being said, I've never tried it, so give it a shot and let us know.

Aero, I could use a Shinko stick! What do you need? You grow way more different varieties than me, but you may not have Pristine, Zestar, Rogers Red Mac, Linda Mac, Ultima Gala, Daybreak Fuji (early Sept. maturity), Honey Gold, Initial.

I can get you that for sure how much would you like? I have all of what you listed except Rogers Red and Linda Mac and Initial. I would take a stick of each if you would dont mind

Paul

Ed- did you once tell me that anaros might be a good choice? I was trying to find some information on it for hardiness and disease resisitance.

I have Anaros crabs that I got from Cummins about 5 years ago and they are have been fruiting for 4 years now. They haven't had them since and the ones I have do sucker a lot. I can send you some scion wood if you want to give them a try. They are very tasty by the way and are my first apples to ripen each year and good pollinator. Not sure about the cold hardiness but someone at Cummins might know. I am in zone 5

Re: Anaros Crab: I was trying to find some information on it for hardiness and disease resisitance.

Here's the description from the Cummins site suggesting solid hardiness:

Anaros Crab
Late-season - late September to late October Anaros: ( Open pollinated seedling of >Antonovka= ) Originated at the Rosthern Experimental Farm, Saskatchewan, Agriculture Canada, selected in 1935, tested as Rosthern #2, and introduced in 1936. The tree is vigorous, upright spreading, round topped, with excellent wide-angled branching. It is hardy to Zone 1, and resistant to fireblight. The fruit is medium size, 4.0-4.5 cm (1 2\\\" ) in diameter, round oblate, and matures in late September to early October. The skin is yellow and washed with crimson. The flesh is yellow, crisp, acid, but pleasant. It is excellent for canning and jelly, and good for juicing.

Just a stick. I have one that died out for some reason, but the rootstock is coming up. Could have had something to do with that little hail storm we had! ;)
