Wisconsin Opener

chucker66

5 year old buck +
Good luck to all hunters heading out tomorrow morning. Heading to my brothers camp tonight for dinner with my other brothers, nephews and my Dad. We haven't hunted to together for quite a few years but we try to get together at least once during rifle season.

Good luck to all you nimrods. Remember, aim small.

Good luck !

How’s it going for everyone so far?

I got out Saturday morning and afternoon. Didn’t see anything in the stand but wasn’t sitting in the best spot. I usually kind of despise opening day due to all the shooting around me, but it seemed like there wasn’t as much this year. Don’t think there’s any good reason for that - just something I noticed. Maybe the mild weather. The orange crew was still definitely out and about.

Friend of mine was in the kettle moraine North unit all day on Saturday. Told me he never saw another hunter. Very quiet all weekend here. 2 shots Saturday at 6 15(a good 15 minutes early) and then nothing until after 8 am. We saw some deer, I missed a big doe at 150, not sure what happened. My youngest shot 2 Saturday afternoon a small buck and a doe. All in all for around here, there was little to no pressure, no hunters.

Saw close to 30 deer opening day. Only 2 of those were bucks. Sunday morning shot a big doe. Found out that neighbors shot our #1 and #2 hit list bucks. Next year isn't looking good for bucks.

Public land in Marquette county. Had 4 bucks walk into some brush about 7 am. They spent 4 hours between 300 and 400 yards away from me, bedding down for a while then taking turns moving around and eating. A forkhorn, a pair of sixes with tall tines, and a huge beast with monster beams and every tine broken off except his brows.

Another hunter walked in from the opposite end of me, not knowing they're there, and they took off out the side. I was up in a portable ladder stand with no rest, so 300 was beyond my range. It was cool to watch them out there though.

Decent amount of shooting Saturday, almost completely quiet Sunday. Working Monday thru Wednesday but will get home to sit for the last hour on my little 5 acres.

Are you in Sauk co?

I saw 20 opening day with one yearling buck. Only saw one fawn Sunday.

It was slow where i was at in south central wisconsin. Not much shooting. Saw a couple deer sitting most of the weekend

Plenty of deer in SW WI this weekend. Tagged a buck yesterday, time to start working on our doe management objectives this weekend.

If you have an unpressured food source, the next five days are going to be bonkers. Muzzle loader season may be even better if we get the snow they're calling for on Sunday

Yes, I saw deer all weekend. I shot a doe on Saturday.

I agree, this weekend looks good. The forecast is showing snow all day Saturday (3-5 inches). Windy and cold weather. I plan to hunt Thursday through Sunday. Most of the time I'll be sitting in heated blinds over my brassica plots.

If I don't shoot a buck this weekend I'll start muzzleloader hunting towards the end of next week.

Wis dnr is saying the deer kill so far is up like 4% from last year... Anyone believe that? In my little area I would say otherwise. Farmland country so rounded by state forest, no hunters out. Saturday morning I heard a total of 7 shots I think, and 2 were mine. Afternoon maybe a dozen and 2 of those my son. Talked to a buddy who hunted the kettles and he reported all day still hunting he never saw another hunter. That's unheard of.

I'm sure we are down in my zone. But since this is the first year of yet another boundary change we have no true harvest history to compare anymore.
