Winter cold weather hunting ( Minnesota)

Angus 1895

5 year old buck +
Hello.

I’m still got an Archery tag for Minnesota. I’m beginning to believe in this cold snap there is a lot of deer activity late morning early afternoon.

Is that what you Minnesota members are seeing on your trail cams?

Thanks

Seeing more at night but there’s some midday movement.

Not MN but I’m seeing deer late evening just before dark and night movement here also. We have maybe 5” of snow on ground and temp is 4 with a sub zero wind chill.
So it’s noisy and everything moving really stands out.

No cams here but the deer can tell when bad weather is coming and will usually be out a couple of days before the bad weather gets here. They eat as much as possible ahead of time so they can hunker down and ride it out. Then shortly after the bad streak they are back out replenishing. Food becomes very important right now. jmo

Southern Wisconsin here. Plenty of snow on the ground and cold temperatures. I only have two cell cameras active. Each camera over a brassica plot. Yesterday I got over 400 pictures. Doe activity all day.

From the photos I have saved, the last five days bucks have started hitting the brassicas a little after noon, 2:30 and 4:30...no shooters. deer brassica eat copy 1a.jpg

In SE MN, the deer are really hitting any food source available. I’m seeing a little random deer movement midday, but most of the action is within an hour of sunset.

Believe me I’m not picky.

I’m hunting with a bow without a heated blind or any recon.

I had a yearling at 15 yards then it spooked when I tried to move on it.

Then it came back to 10 yards and just stared at me.

There was a fresh bed nearby……I think it wanted to sleep.

I told my wife about junior and the told her i would not shoot it.

Two mornings later a deer was coming….i thought I saw others but when it came I was suspicious it was junior.

I didn’t want to shoot junior so I let it come…..then I realized it had a long nose and was most likely the doe that snorted at me a week ago.

I was crouched behind a snag in the swamp and she felt/ saw me when I raised my crossbow….it was about 10 yards.

She trotted off a blew a hemmoroid at about 45 yards for about 5 minutes……...when she finally cleared through the timber at least two others left with her.

It’s really exciting hunting in such close quarters….the deer back in Idaho probably wouldn’t have spooked that hard.

I been seeing deer a lot in the daytime here near Roger’s.

I saw a dandy buck at about 2 in the afternoon on a piece I hope to get permission next year.

WOW!

You done hunting?

Do you have a trespass fee?

Thanks
I still have my tags but I shot a buck in Missouri…not real motivated to get another buck . Nothing very old — would still like to get a doe . Waiting for the right wind .

It’s cold ! I sat tonight in a different farm . Saw 4. Froze my butt off on way in . I’ve got a friend who wants a doe also , we need a W/SW/S wind . NW & N is not good !

I had a 2.5 year old @10 yards. It came in I didn’t hear it, I’m really deaf.

I stared it down it moved but when I turned off the safety it clicked.

We had another stare down.

Its head moved behind a tree trunk and I tried to lift the bow.

It stopped and turned and left….two others were with it. I didn’t notice antlers. Strange the biggest one seemed in the lead. It was 8:20

At 8:50 two does and a fawn came by at 8 yards. I was so excited I fogged my scope. When they were in my only shooting lane the angle of the quartering away was too steep. I guess I could have hammed her, but I have little experience shooting for the femoral artery.

It was very exciting.
