Do you see anyone one putting together a MDDI in Missouri? Here of any Missouri hunters complaining?;)
They don't have to listen if they don't want to in my book, the MDC is doing it right without any help!
Jury is out with me.
Last year they asked us a bunch of ?'s
My hot buttons were moving the firearm season out of the rut and doing away with a 10 day doe season because you could still shoot does during the 10 day rifle buck season. If memory serves me, both were approved by the masses but I haven't seen those reg changes on paper yet.
Then there's the handling of CWD zones. Jury's out on that.
Time will tell.
Historically though I have to say MDC has done a great job!
I used to want to move the firearm season out of the rut but the more I think about it I think that's selfish on my part. Some dont have the time to bowhunt an simply enjoy rifle hunting. Why not give them the opportunity to hunt during the best time of the year? Just because I take hunting more seriously than most doesn't mean Im more entitled to killing a mature buck than anyone else that hunts Mo. I would like to see state wide antler point restriction. Same rules apply to everyone. Teaches people trigger management and steers away from the "if its brown its down" mentality. MDC was asked to limit doe harvest in some areas and thats exactly what they did. That earned my trust.
I feel APR with limited doe harvest "helps" maintain a balanced herd. With the exception of youth hunters. This educates hunters and is just all around good sound WT management IMO. It most Definatly increases the amount of mature bucks that make it through the season. This draws attention from out of state hunters generating revenue that stimulates the Econmy but doesn't emphasize trophy hunting to an extreme. Also teaches us trigger finger managment making is more observant ethical hunters. Like mentioned above seems to kick the "if it's brown it's down" mentalityJust playing devil's advocate here...you think those who would prefer to move the firearm season out of the rut may be selfish...but don't find state wide mandated APRs selfish?
