Whitetail Crabs 2026

I been checking their website multiple times every day since Sept 1 st . About the 3 rd or 4 th of Sept it said "2026 trees available now" HOWEVER since that day, they have only had 13 tree varieties available and 33 "sold out". Did they have a bad growing season or just not get around to updating the website, or a new 30 06 cider business taking precedence ?.

I may be jumping the gun, in past years the trees weren't "available" until mid Sept (15th-16th) and they would post on Social Media trees are up.
So far no social media update on Instagram , BUT doesn't make sense to me to update the website to say "2026 trees available now" when you only have 13 out of 33 tree varieties available and no explination as to why anywhere. The 33 trees that are (sold out) were never added to the website in the first place.

It's a let down for me. I really wanted another Rut Rage pear (sold out/never added) and Winter crab as shown on Instagram earlier this year (never added).

I could get a 10 point, Feather up, and Death wish , BUT don't feel like paying $40 shipping for 3 trees when it would cost the same for 5.
If the Rut Rage and Winter crab get added in the next week or two I'll place a order....if not I'll wait until next year.

Not sure, I was hoping to put an order in too and try out some of his hazelnuts. I sent an email last week asking if more inventory will be added..... but no response.

I'm also really intrigued by the hazelnuts. Both the Eta and Theta are great pollinizers for other commercial varieties.

Yea it seems like a plant that can offer some cover with being multi-stem as well as the nuts. Will update if I get an e-mail back, but i think I would have gotten a response by now.

My money would be on they initially updated the website and got distracted with inventory/harvest. Every year there is some debate about when the tree inventory will be updated and orders taken. I would just hang tight and see what else gets added. I have order confirmations on September 14th and some on 26th of September.

You're probably right, but I still think changing the headline to "2026 trees available now" should be the very last update they do on the website every year.

I grow about 100 hazelnuts out from seed each year. I mostly grow commercial varieties that I purchase the seed for online. The seeds are not true to the parents, so you don't know for sure if you are getting a 'Jefferson' or a 'Theta' or one of those mixed with something else or a wildtype. With that said, the commercial seed sources (mostly European or hybrids) that I have used have produced hazelnut trees and shrubs that are much more vigorous than the wild American types I have sourced from the field. I would definitely look into burnt ridge nursery for their seed sales in the late fall. You can get well over 100 nuts for around $9.

In my opinion, hazelnuts are one of the most valuable wildlife trees. I don't think deer actually get many of the nuts, but they are incredibly important for many other game species and great woody forage and cover for deer. I have yet to find a clump of hazelnuts on any of our farms that does not have beds in it.

Good to know, thanks I am guessing WTC are not grafted? Ive read hazelnuts can have a really bad problem with eastern filbert blight, so I wanted to make sure I had a resistant variety.

They are all EFB resistant.

I couldn't tell from the website if they are grafts or seedlings, but I think it would be fair to assume that they are grafted plants based on the cultivars advertised. I wouldn't be as concerned about EFB.

Check out Z's Nutty Ridge for Hazelnuts too. I believe they have some new offerings this year too.
