Whats growing in my clover?

fingers

5 year old buck +
Requesting help to ID this large broadleaf growing in my clover. Deer don't seem to be eating it. I don't mind not having a perfectly clean plot, but these are fairly large leaves and might be shading out the clover a bit much. Im looking to ID so I can find a good chemical to spot spray...presumably butyrac20250727_105641.jpg20250727_105709.jpg

dock! its garbage and have the same struggle

Thanks. That appears to be it and it doesn't seem to be controlled by mowing, so it looks like spray is going to be required. Appreciate the fast ID

It looks like I need 2,4DB (Butyrac) to kill the Dock and not Clover. Locally, I can only find 2,4D and the labels for those jugs say it kills clover. Am I reading this correctly that I need the 'B' to be clover-safe?

While a spot spray will kill some clover, "surgical applications" work well and the majority of the clover will continue to thrive. Another option might be a 1-2% solution of glyphosate on the dock and non-clover plants.

Yes

I decided I want to get this sprayed Saturday, so went ahead and overpaid for whitetail institute slay because it ships faster than butyrac. Appreciate all the input. Ill post some after pics if it works

Keystone pest solutions. You can buy it direct and they also sell on Amazon.
This. Bill nailed it. We got our 2-4DB from Keystone. They handle loads of herbicides and pesticides if you need any of those. Got our cleth there too.

Not sure where you live but Farm and Home stores around central Illinois usually has it in stock along with anything else you might need.

Keystone usually ships pretty fast.

Don't be surprised if you have to spot spray again. Your dock looks young, so you might not need repeated sprays, but I've sprayed mature dock 4 or 4 times to finally kill it.

1 week after spot spray with Slay Maxx and the dock is hurting...most leaves have some red and brown...I gave them an extra shot today for good measure and hit a few that I apparently missed. I expect dead and brown next weekend 20250809_155714.jpg

1 month and 2 spray applications of Slay Maxx later. The dock is fading but not dead. Most of the leaves are 70 to 80% reddish with holes in them but still 20% green and seemingly still alive. I gave them a 3rd dose of spot spray

Well done!

Do you have a soil test for this plot? All docks are low calcium/high magnesium (i.e. clay soil) weeds. I knocked out a still stand of it with a hot rate of gypsum. It's also a prolific seeder, and small critters eat the seed, mice and such.

Fight conditions or change conditions. I say change.

I did test, but before this was planted and have since limed and fertilized. We'll see how bad the dock comes back next year but for now I am very happy with the results of spot spraying the Slay Maxx. The next weed I'll need to fight in this plot is Pennsylvania Smartweed....its creeping all over beneath the clover. Its everywhere, so spot spray is not an option and I will save that battle for next year

Do you have the test you could post? The other thing docks like is high P and K.

I enjoy your input about what plants indicate about the soil needs and lack of fertility. I know what most things I plant needs to be productive. On the other hand I know broom sedge indicates a low pH but I have little knowledge of what other plants in the environment indicates about the soil. I am sure I could research individual plants but I was wondering if you have a chart which gives this knowledge in a simple quick place.
Thanks
