Looks a hickory.

Not a hickory. I have plenty of those. Leaves remind me a little of buckeye but these husks ate much larger than any buckeye or hickory that I've seen.

Better view of the size of the mast. And some are even larger than this one.

Looks like ohio buckeye to me! Wood will be real soft and those seed pods you should be able to tear apart and find buckeyes. They like damp soil and are just about worthless unless you like to carve wood with your pocket knife.

It is buckeye. I should have cut it open before I posted the thread.
I've never seen buckeye mast this large.

Paw paw are more banana shaped

I have seen them the size of just a bit smaller than a baseball before.....Like I said - just about the most worthless native tree I have. I hinge them all - I keep a few just for the nuts. Old-timers claim they are lucky and my grandfather carried one in his pocket for as long as I can remember. When he passed a few of us boys carried on the tradition.....I have one in my pocket right now!

Wow, what big nuts you have.......o_O:D

Just for clarity - this is a paw-paw
