Apple scab

treatments?

Wait for someone else to chip in, i believe that is what it is and if right I think you can spray with a fungicide.

Scab is likely, if not it is another fungal disease. From my understanding Scab will continue to infect the tree throughout the growing season as long as the environmental conditions are favorable. Captan is the standard preventative for many fungal diseases and should also keep the other healthy leaves clear if you apply it on schedule.

It's pretty early for scab to show symptoms like that. This time of year it's just small brown smudges. Trees with scab and yellow leaves still have brown smudges and deformed leaves, but that would be later in the summer. That's not to say you don't have scab, I just can't tell from that pic. If it was scab, there is nothing you are going to do about it anyways this late. It's already there for the year.

I'd be more inclined to say stress from something, too much water, to little, to much heat, etc. I would guess it will drop those leaves as the trees way of dealing w/ the stress. I'm seeing a little yellowing in some of my trees (not like that though), I'm assuming from all the rain. I have tree fruit specialist from UVM coming to tour my orchards tomorrow. I'll try to remember to ask him about your tree.

I had Dr Bradshaw over yesterday, and mentioned your tree. He said not sure without seeing, but thought stress of some sort. He thought since it was not all the leaves the tree will just drop the unneeded leaves and the tree will be fine. Not uncommon with young trees. Again, he stressed without seeing, he wasn't sure. Give it a few weeks, I think what he suggested will end up being the case. Good luck!

I am by no means a specialist, but I have to agree with Maya. Last year mine looked about the same after we had a bunch of spring rain. Those leaves did drop, and all is well this year.

thanks for replies all. not sure what is up with this forum but i cant seem to log in on my iphone and rarely use my computer for this site which is why i'm late in posting back. Anyways, went on vacation and just checked the trees yesterday and it looks pretty normal again.
